摘要:
A differential response of peanut (Arachis hypogaeaL.) cultivars with varying seed sizes to Ca nutrition has been observed for many years. No satisfactory explanation of why different seed sizes respond differently to Ca nutrition was found. Fruit with a wide range of seed sizes were investigated. Fruit characteristics relating to seed size and Ca content expressed as a concentration and as the total amount in a fruit were compared. Ca content expressed as a concentration showed no relationship to seed size. Utilizing total Ca content in a peanut fruit and its volume, it was shown that large‐seeded fruit needed to transport Ca through a longer soil distance to satisfy the fruit's nutritional need than small‐seeded fruit did. This result does not address any Ca nutritional characteristics internal to a peanut fruit nor does it address any genetic nutritional variables.

摘要:
Radiophosphorus solution under hydrostatic pressure was passed through the xylem of bean stem sections (Phaseolus vulgaris L., var. Red Wade), and the amount of isotope retained by the stem under various experimental situations noted. Retention of phosphorus followed a linear gradient with time, and was influenced by the physiological age of the plant. Rate of flow of the solution through the stem had no effect on retention. Neither did composition of the radiosolution with respect to pH, various mineral cations, and the water regulators phenylmercuric acetate and polyethylene glycol. Approximately 25 percent of the retained phosphorus was in the soluble state, and only a negligible amount in the exchangeable state.

摘要:
The hypothesis that leaves of soybean plants need to senesce in order to provide nitrogen for seed development has been used to explain the mechanism by which late‐season foliar applications of N P K and S solutions sometimes increase seed yields. A review of results of recent field and laboratory trials suggests that late‐season foliar fertilization does not inhibit leaf senescence and that such senescence is in any case not a primary factor in limiting seed yields.

摘要:
In a greenhouse study on three podzol soils with pH values of 5.4–5.6, liming to pH 7.6 or higher decreased the Fe concentration of pea plant tissues from 47 to 42 ppm. In the case of barley, liming the soil increased the mean tissue Fe concentration from 104 to 119 ppm at pH 7.6 and to 107 ppm at pH 7.7. Field experiments on wheat, oats, alfalfa, and timothy showed that Mn applied to the soil or as foliar spray did not affect the Fe concentration of cereal or forage plant tissues. Liming did not affect the Fe concentration of cereal kernels but on a few locations it increased the Fe concentration of the boot stage tissue. The Fe concentration in oats was higher than that in wheat. Based on the results of a survey, it was found that forage legumes contained more Fe than did timothy. The survey also showed that a few Fe values in timothy and cereals would be considered low, although Fe deficiency has not been experienced in this region. A number of the samples would be in the deficiency range from the animal nutrition standpoint.

摘要:
Three rice cultivars, IR712, M1–48 and E425 were grown in solution culture for 10 weeks in temperature controlled glasshouses at IRRI, Los Baños, Philippines. Treatments consisted of two Mn levels, 0.5 and 50 μg.cm‐3and two temperature regimes, 35/27 and 20/20 (day/night) in °C. Dry matter and Mn concentrations were determined at 2‐week intervals. In a second experiment, the M1–48 cultivar was grown in solutions containing 0.5, 1, 40 and 80 μg.cm‐3Mn at 35/27, 29/21 and 20/20 °C (day/night) temperatures.
