摘要:
Grain sorghumSorghum bicolor(L.) Moench genotypes responded differently to nitrogen and phosphorus additions to soil, but very little information is available correlating responses of hybrids and their parents. A two‐year study of a set of four male and three female parents and their resulting hybrids was conducted under control and added N, P, or N + P conditions. The treatments caused differences in grain yield and total grain phosphorus among the genotypes. Days to bloom, stover yield, or percent grain and stover nitrogen were not influenced by additions of nitrogen or phosphorus in this soil. The only significant difference detected among groups (females, males or hybrids) was for total grain nitrogen; i.e., male parents had lower grain yields than female parents or hybrids. Differences were found among the four males only for total grain phosphorus and among the females only for days to bloom. Hybrids differed for days to bloom and stover yield. A significant genotype by year interaction occurred for all traits measured, which was due primarily to environmental stress in the first year that significantly lowered the magritude of genotypic differences in the first year compared with those in the second year. Nitrogen and phosphorus applied together generally exerted more influence on most of the measured traits than either element applied singly. The responses of hybrids were correlated more closely with the response of the female than of the male parent for the traits. The only exception was for percent stover nitrogen where the influence of the male and female parents was equal.

摘要:
Two greenhouse sand culture experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) on growth and elemental composition of ‘Dark Red Kidney’ beans. Virus concentration within infected beans increased rapidly between 4 and 8 days after inoculation. Symptom expression, growth reductions, and changes in the elemental composition of infected plants were associated with this increase. Virus distribution within the plant varied with the position of the trifoliate leaf or plant part sampled. In addition, symptom expression on the trifoliate leaves at different positions on the plant varied greatly.

摘要:
The alterations are studied which are produced in the content of mineral elements and organic fractions of sap with the increase in the osmotic pressure of the nutritive solution at levels of 2.0; 3.5 and 5.0 atm., obtained through the addition to the nutritive solution either of magnesium sulphate or PEG‐4000.

摘要:
In this paper the evolution of total phosphorus, as well as its more interesting fractions (inorganic‐P, organic‐P, lipidic‐P, P‐RNA, P‐DNA and proteic‐P) are studied over an one year period, in Verna lemon tree leaves, not only greenones, but also on others with slight manganese deficiency symptoms, as well as with medium and strong manganese chlorosis. The results show that manganese notably influences the concentration of the before mentioned phosphorus compounds. So the total phosphorus levels, soluble acid phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus decrease according to the intensity of the chlorosis. The yearly fluctuations of the both lipidic and RNA phosphorus, fractions act in the same way. Nevertheless, the influence of manganese on the P‐DNA and proteic‐P is not clear.

摘要:
Variability of leaf element content of ‘Bartlett’ Pear growing on 15 different pyrus species and related genera rootstocks was not great and did not vary appreciably from that expected from intraspecific rootstocks under the soil and environmental conditions of the experiment. The genetics of the scion seemed to be the determinant in leaf element content of the scion, although it is possible that under greater acidic or basic soil ph conditions than the 6.1 ph of the experiment, the root‐stocks could have more or less of an effect. The data also suggested that nutrient passage through the graft union was unrelated to the degree of compatability between rootstock and scion in pear.

摘要:
Six sorghum (Sorghum vulqaris Pers.,) varieties representing male and female lines and hybrids were examined for their response to Fe‐stress, and their ability to absorb and transport Fe in the absence and presence of phosphate or CaCO,. It was found that the variety 2077‐A (male sterile female line) and the variety CSH‐5 (hybrid of 2077‐A r CS‐3541) showed distinct mechanism to tolerate and recover completely from chlorosis induced by Fe‐stress in 10 days. Furthermore, these 2 varieties were able to reduce the pH from 6.4 to 3.8 in about 9 days, and this was increased to about 6.2 in another 6 days, which period corresponded with the onset of chlorosis and subsequent recovery. The variety 2219‐A (male‐sterile female line) was also able to withstand Fe‐stress, although the chlorosis appeared only mild throughout. This variety also reduced pH from 6.4 to 4.5, but only after 14 days in the presence of CaCO3(8 mg/1), and this time corresponded to the period of complete recovery from chlorosis.

摘要:
White yam (Dioscorea rotundatacv. Olonko) was grown consecutively for three growing seasons, i.e. from February to October of 1975, 1976 and 1977, and treated with six levels of nitrogen, viz: 0, 40, 60, 120, 160 and 200 kg N/ha in the field. Leaf samples were taken at four stages of growth as follows: vegetative, tuber formation, tuber development and tuber maturation, and analyzed for NO3‐N, P, K, Ca and Mg.
