摘要:
The acid insoluble sclerites ofThambetolepis delicatagen. et sp. nov. of late Tommotian or immediately post-Tommotian age from near Ardrossan, South Australia, are described. These sclerites, as well as those ofSachitesMeshkova 1969 andHalkieriaPoulsen 1967, are from multi-sclerite animals similar toWiwaxiaWalcott 1911 together with which they constitute the new class Thambetolepidea. Biological affinities of these fossils are discussed in the light of the complex internal structure of the sclerites. Possible assignments to the opisthobranch gastropods, the polyplacophorans, or the annelids are discussed but the taxonomic position ofThambetolepisand the Thambetolepidea is unresolved.

摘要:
WhenOgygoptynx wetmoreiwas reported by Rich & Bohaska (1976), it appeared to represent a unique and new avian group. Detailed comparisons of this Early Paleocene form from Colorado (USA) have clearly demonstrated that it is distinct from North American protostrigids and all European Palaeogene owls and that it is intermediate between the modern typical owls (Strigidae) and barn owls (Tytonidae). A new monotypic family of owls, the Ogygoptyngidae, is proposed to include this form.

摘要:
Forty-eight species and subspecies, belonging to 13 genera of planktic foraminiferids have been identified from the ‘Cartier Beds’ and unnamed calcarenite in Ashmore Reef No. 1 Well. The assemblages indicate that the units correlate with planktic Zones N.3/4 to N.6–7 (Late Oligocene to Early Miocene). One new species,Subbotina cartieri, is described.

摘要:
Fossil eggshell fragments from a sand dune near Port Augusta are attributed to the extinct dromornithid,Genyornis newtoniStirling & Zietz. Shell curvature measurements show that the eggs were larger than those of the Emu,Dromaius novaehollandiae. Radiocarbon dates indicate an age in excess of 40,680 BP. Holes pierced through some fragments are attributed to the action of predators.

摘要:
The discovery of an astragalus of an allosaurid theropod in southeastern Australia extends the geographic range of the Allosauridae to include all continents except Antarctica and the Indian subcontinent. In addition, it confirms the presence of this family during the Early Cretaceous.

摘要:
Unconsolidated sediments from a borehole in Botany Bay have been analyzed for their foraminiferal content. Faunas from between 41 and 54 m below sea level are interpreted as Pleistocene in age. The foraminiferal assemblage from 54 m indicates marine conditions of moderately deep water (25–30 m), and a climate warmer than at present. The higher assemblages indicate a more brackish environment
