摘要:
Stromatoporoids are well represented in the carbonate depositional phases of the Middle-Upper Silurian Jack Formation, the Lower-Middle Devonian Shield Creek Formation and Broken River Group of north Queensland. A total of 4 species of Labechiida, 4 species of Actinostromida, 14 species (4 new) of Clathrodictyida and 5 species (1 new) of Stromatoporellida are described and illustrated. They include the new speciesGerronostroma doseyense, G.? apertum, Schistodictyon jackense, Atelodictyon repandumandHermatostroma malletti. The fauna comprises representatives ofCystostroma, Labechiella, Stylostroma, Actinostroma, Aculatostroma, Ecclimadictyon, Plexodictyon, Anostylostroma?, Nexililamina, Pseudoactinodictyon, Tienodictyon, Simplexodictyon, Stromatopororella, Stictostroma, Trupetostroma?,AmnestostromaandStachyodes. Included are revisions of a number of C.W. Mallett's species first described in the early 1970s. The genusNexililaminaMallett is reinterpreted as a clathrodictyid. The history of the ‘less advanced’ labechiids suggests they came close to extinction in the Early Devonian. However, they survived as a distinctive, relict stock in the Lower Devonian Broken River assemblages (up to 4 genera recorded), and lived in close association with non-labechiid components of the fauna.

摘要:
Well preserved calcareous microfossils, such as ostracods, can be extracted from strongly lithified Palaeozoic limestones of the Lachlan Fold Belt using highly concentrated acetic acid (95%) with minimal dissociation. This technique differs from the more dilute acetic acid or formic acid methods which are commonly used during the extraction of phosphatic microfossils, such as conodonts, and which destroy many calcitic specimens. Correlations made between representative microfossil assemblages and host rock thin sections expand knowledge of palaeoenvironmental parameters attributed to microfacies.

摘要:
An incomplete indeterminate crocodilian angular from the Miocene Bannockburn Formation, Central Otago, South Island, New Zealand is described. The fossil (probably a new taxon) represents the first undoubted occurrence of a crocodilian in New Zealand. Local palaeoclimatic indicators suggest the crocodilian lived in a temperate climate.

摘要:
Fossil bones of a new genus and species of rail (Aves: Rallidae) are described from one million year old shoreline deposits near Marton, North Island, New Zealand. Associated bones indicate the presence of a specifically indeterminate rail, an indeterminate avian species, and a moa (Aves: Dinornithiformes). These are the first described fossil terrestrial carinates from deposits older than 100,000 years in New Zealand.
