The carbonaceous fossilChuaria circularisWalcott (1899) is reported from the Raiwalla Shale of the Wessel Group (onshore Arafura Basin), Northern Territory. As most occurrences ofChuariaare Proterozoic and the majority of these are Neoproterozoic, the Early to Middle Cambrian age previously assigned to the Wessel Group is no longer well supported, especially since the main fossil evidence on which this was based is no longer applicable. A carbonate unit containing a Middle Cambrian trilobite fauna, previously considered part of the Wessel Group, is now interpreted to lie unconformably above this group. The discovery has regional stratigraphic significance in northern Australia and the ages of other poorly dated successions, commonly assumed to be of Early Cambrian age, requires reassessment.

摘要:
Palaeozoic microvertebrate remains are documented from the Point Hibbs Formation, Point Hibbs, western Tasmania. They comprise scales, teeth and ornamented dermal bone from acanthodians“Nostolepis” guangxiensis, Nostolepisspp.,Gomphonchus? bogongensis, Trundlelepis cervicostulataandWatsonacanthus? sp., onychodontiform sarcopterygians, and four types of placoderms. The microvertebrate fauna supports a Lower Devonian (Pragian) age for the deposit, when compared with other eastern Australian occurrences of these taxa.

The affinities of a puzzling microfossil,Ningbingellina veeversin. gen., n. sp., originally reported from the Late Devonian Ningbing Limestone, in the Bonapart Gulf Basin, Western Australia are discussed. Links with the thallus of uncalcified dasycladale Aciculelleae, with udoteaceans, and with calcispheres are explored, and an affinity with calcified dasycladale sporangium is tentatively proposed.

The Cretaceous Mollusca (Bivalvia, Gastropoda, Scaphopoda) from the Chatham Islands, New Zealand consists of a moderately diverse faunule of 37 species in the Kahuitara Tuff of Pitt Island. At least 16 (c.43%) of the taxa are conspecific with mainland New Zealand species and at least 15 (c.41%) taxa are endemic to Chatham Islands. New species proposed areCrenellan. sp.,Chlamys (Lyriochlamys)n. sp.,Chlamys s. l.n. sp.,Camptonectesn. sp.,Eburneopecten freneixaen. sp.,Dimyodonn. sp.,Purpurocardian. sp.,Lahillian. sp.,Solyma flemingaen. sp.,Brookula s. l.n. sp.,Calliomphalus s. l.n. sp.,Pyrgulifera kahuitaran. sp., andAgeria? n. sp. Most taxa (c.41%) are epifaunal suspension feeding bivalves and dominate the Cretaceous macrofauna. Less dominant are infaunal suspension feeding bivalves (30%). Epifaunal browsers (c.14%), deposit feeders (8%) and carnivores (5%) are minor components. An open marine, shallow shelf environment is advocated. A latest Cretaceous (Campanian?-Maastrichtian) age is supported for the Kahuitara Tuff macrofossils.
