A woman with no previous history of breast carcinoma presented with focal hair loss, which was presumptively diagnosed as alopecia areata. After treatment failures, a scalp biopsy was performed, which subsequently led to the diagnosis of breast carcinoma. This case illustrates the subtle course which breast cancer can take and the insidious manner in which it may present. It alerts clinicians and pathologists to the possibility of secondary causes, including malignancy, in the differential diagnosis of alopecia refractory to usual treatments.

Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (nevus) is a rare form of congenital tumorous malformation with proliferation of eccrine secretory coils and duels, surrounding capillary angiomatous channels and occasionally oilier minor elements. To date, there have been only about 24 cases reported in the literature. We report an additional case with more detailed description of the microscopic Endings, including immunohistochemical observations. The patient was a 28‐year‐old female who presented with painless, flesh to reddish brown‐colored, violaceous or bluish subcutaneous nodules on the extremities and trunk. The tumors did not show sweating following exertion. The histologic features were comparable lo the previously reported cases. The hamartomatous eccrine sweat glands and duels and a few apocrine glands demonstrated qualitatively diminished antigens commonly found in the eccrine sweat apparatuses, such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and S–100 protein. The. findings of CD34, CD44, human nerve growth factor receptor andUlex europacusantigens have not been previously reported. A case of nevus sebaceus with development of a basal cell epithelioma is described. This case of nevus sebaceus was characterized by an association with extensive nevoid growths of melanocytes in the same lesion. We report on a patient with a sclerotic Fibroma that recurred 30 months after initial removal. The histologic features were characteristic, and immunoperoxidase stains using primary antibodies directed against cell proliferation markers were positive in a significant proportion of the neoplastic nuclei. A review of the literature identified one other sclerotic fibroma that persisted. These clinical and light microscopic features support the interpretation that sclerotic fibroma is a proliferating neoplasm with an unusual histologic pattern, rather than the end‐stage of a process that was formerly more cellular.
