Histiocytofibromas (HF) are benign tumours of the skin, the cellular composition of which is not yet known with certainly. The immunohistologic characteristics of 5 lesions were studied by using monoclonal antibodies and an indirect immunofluorescence method. All tumours were found to contain HLA‐DR(+) cells, and, to a minor degree, OKM1(+) cells, OKT6(+) cells were present in the epidermis overlying the tumours; however in the HP1 themselves, no OKT6(+) cells were found. The presence of HLA‐DR(+) and OKM1(+) cells demonstrates that HF contain cells bearing antigenic characteristics of histiocytes but not of Langerhans'cells, and we feel that the term “histiocytofibroma” is a more accurate designation for these lesions than “dermat

Microsome, thyroid and DNA tests on patients with generalized vitiligo vulgaris, with or without Sutton's leukoderma, show a high positive rate without thyroid diseases. A case of pretibial myxedema associated with Graves' diseases has been studied by electron microscopy utilizing an improved ruthenium red stain. An organized network of microfibrils with knobs were found within the widened interfibrous spaces. This network was clearly demonstrated by the ruthenium red stain, but only a weak trace could be observed when conventional staining techniques were utilized. Knobs of the network seemed to be composed of ruthenium red‐positive granules which surrounded normal fibers and granules of degrading collagen fibers. Seventy‐one biopsy specimens taken at the Mayo Clinic from June 1977 through May 1981 demonstrated lymphocytic vasculitis. All specimens met the criteria for lymphocytic vasculitis, defined as (1) a predominantly lymphocytic infiltrate that involves and surrounds blood vessel walls, (2) fibrinoid necrosis of blood vessel walls, and (3) endothelial cell hyperplasia. Other histologic findings such as thrombosis, extravasation of erythrocytes, ulceration, epidermal infarction, and evidence of nuclear dust were seen only occasionally. Hypocomplementemia and other serologic abnormalities were very rare, even when lymphocytic vasculitis was extensive. The clinical diagnoses varied, with drug reaction (12 patients) and chronic urticaria (10 patients) being most frequent. In 32 cases, no specific diagnosis could lie made at the time of dermatologic dismissal. In the remaining 39 cases. The diagnoses were varied and no definite clinical categories can be applied lo them. We also observed typical lymphocytic vasculitis in some cases of other clinical entities, such as nodular scabies, erythema multiforme, and urticarial vasculitis. and so forth. Nevic corpuscle in the pigmented nevus was studied under light microscopy in comparison with Meissner corpuscle of the human sole skin in order to determine its ontogenesis. No nerve fibers within nevic corpuscle but coiled fibers in Meissner corpuscle could be demonstrated by Bodian slain. Presence of S‐100 protein in the pigmented nevus and Meissner corpuscle was observed under light microscopy utilizing peroxidase‐antiperoxidase immunohistochemical staining. S‐IOU protein was more evident in nevic corpuscles than in Types A and B intradermal nevus cells. Meissner corpuscle showed moderate stainability for S‐100 protein. Ultrastructural study revealed that the nevic corpuscle was composed of the laminated cells with flattened cytoplasmic processes but lacked peripheral nerve endings such as axons, characteristically shown in Meissner corpuscle.
