摘要:
Chromomycosis is a general term to express human and animal fungal infections caused by members of the family Dematiaceae (dark brown or black fungi). Unique host‐parasite relationships produce a wide spectrum of clinical disease, sometimes difficult to treat. Four major categories are recognized: 1)Superficial Chromomycosis– A pigmented macule produced by fungus inhabiting exclusively the dead horny layer (stratum corneum) of the skin, as in tinea nigra palmaris. 2)Chromoblastomycosis– A verrucous, slow growing nodule or plaque produced by fungi, characteristically and exclusively present as large brown spherical bodies (chromo bodies) in the dermis. 3)Chromohyphomycosis– A dermal nodule produced by fungi displaying typical brown septated hyphae. Rarely, the fungus may appear as a yeast. It may occur in deeper tissues, i.e., muscles, bone and brain or it may also involve the eye (Keratomycosis). 4)Chromomycetoma– Tumefaction, draining sinuses and presence of colony of organisms as “grain”. Dematiaceae are found more frequently in veterinary than in h

摘要:
After two decades of using systemic antibiotics as a main treatment for acne, emphasis is again being placed on topical agents. Thus, it is highly desirable to have a procedure whereby the activity of the various compounds can be evaluated by direct visualization. Scanning electron microscopy combined with transmission electron microscopy provide the tools for such an assay. This study describes the ultrastructure of untreated comedones and provides the baseline or control data necessary for testing topical treatments. Comedones obtained by punch biopsies or comedo extractors were processed for electron microscopy and studied with an ETEC Auto‐scan Scanning Electron Microscope and with Philips EM 300 and EM 301 Transmission Electron Microscopes. Microorganisms, keratinized cells, sebum, and hairs interact with each other to form the comedonal mass.Corynebacterium acnesandPityrosporum ovaleproliferate abundantly in close association with sebum and penetrate the keratinized cells. Fine structural details of bacteria and yeasts as well as features of host‐microbial relationship have been elucida

摘要:
The combined use of scanning electron‐microscopy and chemical separation of epidermis permitted the study of the irradiated and normal hair follicle surface characteristics. Irradiation reduced the length and density of the hair follicles, producing at the same time marked alterations and deformities of the individual follicles. As most of these changes were dose‐ and time‐dependent, these structures, studied by these techniques, provide an interesting model as biological indicators of radiation

摘要:
Subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn (SFNN) developed in a 1‐week‐old black boy. His mother had received numerous medications for eclampsia. Birth was by Caesarean section and complicated by meconium aspiration. There were numerous nodules over the back, buttocks and extremities that yielded a caseous‐like material. Microscopically, these nodules showed crystallization and necrosis of the fat. Hypoglycemia, pneumonia, oliguria, thrombocytopenia, seizures and urinary infection were associated with the cutaneous problem and led to a fatal outcome 2 weeks after

摘要:
We present the case of a 52‐year‐old white male who showed arthritis, conjunctivitis and non‐gonococcal urethritis. Besides those manifestations, the patient also showed mucocutaneous lesions that were both clinically and histologically indistinguishable from those of pustular psoriasis. Due to the severity of the disease it was necessary to treat this patient with corticosteroids and immunosuppressors. With this therapy the clinical manifestations of Reiter's Syndrome disappeared but sudden abdominal and bronchopulmonary symptoms complicated the picture and the patient died in a septical shock. The autopsy findings revealed massive Strongyloidiasis with the presence of larvae in several organs, particularly in the intestinal wall, the lungs and the

摘要:
Two patients are reported with clinical symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus associated with centrally ulcerated hypertrophic plaques and lip lesions. Histological findings from various sites were features of both lupus erythematosus and lichen planus. An increase in acid mucopolysaccharides and a thickened basement membrane which were present in some biopsies were interpreted as lupus erythematosus. The deposition of immunoglobulins and fibrinogen seemed to favor lupus erythematosus but these findings may also be seen in lichen planus. Four possible interpretations of the findings are discussed. The term “mixed lichen planus – lupus erythematosus disease” may be appropriate for these pat
