摘要:
The dependence of conventional definitions of the atomic diamagnetic susceptibility on the gauge adopted for the description of the magnetic field is illustrated. The demonstration of the gauge invariance of the complete magnetic susceptibility leads to a discussion of the connection between gauge transformations and sum rules.

摘要:
Relativistic quantum‐mechanical theories presently taught in upper‐division undergraduate and graduate programs are critically examined. Following an historical sketch of the development of relativistic quantum mechanics, a discussion of the still unresolved difficulties of the presently accepted theories is presented. This review is designed to complement and update the discussion of relativistic quantum mechanics presented in many widely used texts.

摘要:
In the present paper we obtained an estimate for the gaps between the energy levels of a particle moving in a bounded interval subjected to a potential fieldU(x). As a consequence, the validity of the correspondence principle in this case is discussed.

摘要:
While hydrogen does not strictly separate into center of mass (CM) and relative motion in a magnetic field, a judicious gauge choice does lead to a simple Hamiltonian whose form in a state of zero translational motion of the center of mass is that of a charged particle in a magnetic field plus a Coulomb potential.

摘要:
It is shown that the Schrödinger equation for the hydrogenlike atom separates in both spheroconal and prolate spheroidal coordinates and that these separations provide a sound theoretical basis for the real and hybrid atomic orbitals. Thus the real and hybrid atomic orbitals have as sound a pedigree as the more familiar complex orbitals based on the separation of the Schrödinger equation in spherical polar coordinates.

摘要:
A known but often overlooked property of optical monochromators is discussed in view of its currents applications. It is shown that grating and prism monochromators hold on to light for time durations proportional to the resolving power. The dispersing ability of monochromators extends to pulses of arbitrarily short duration, in contrast to a somewhat common belief concerning interference.

摘要:
An exact solution to the problem of the Stark and Zeeman effects of the charged two‐dimensional rotator is given. The energy spectrum is shown to exhibit an unusual degeneracy‐breaking pattern. Group theory is used to account for the contrasting symmetry properties of the electric and magnetic field solutions. An examination of the physical properties of the system by means of perturbation theory leads to a clarification of an important point concerning the use of degenerate perturbation theory and the analytical continuity of perturbation wave functions.
