摘要:
Electric network elements are defined. Methods for analyzing electric networks, both on the loop basis and on the node basis, are stated and illustrated by simple examples. The conventional method of constructing dual circuits, by drawing lines connecting loop centers, via the elements, is dualized, resulting in a construction in which loops, passing through the elements, are drawn around nodes. “Nominal voltage sources” are introduced to represent the voltages induced by mutual induction, making it possible to extend the reciprocal property of duality to all planar circuits.

摘要:
This report deals with the analysis of paper-pencil laboratory tests in general physics, constructed and administered at the University of Minnesota, 1952–1953. The characteristics of the tests were investigated and the relationships with other achievement measures were explored. With the exception of theIdentification and Function, pretest intercorrelations were low. These two pretests were fair predictors for the corresponding posttests in Mechanics. All the pretests in Electricity were fair predictors for the corresponding posttests. The correlations between the paper-pencil tests and other criteria of achievement in elementary physics were either nonsignificantly different from zero, or low. On three of the four tests in Mechanics, boys scored significantly higher than girls. On all the posttests the means were significantly higher than for the pretests, irrespective of sex or course taken. The investigation lends support to the hypothesis that paper-pencil laboratory tests contain elements other than those evaluated by performance tests and the conventional measures of achievement in elementary physics.

摘要:
A panel discussion under the above title was presented at the twenty-third annual meeting of the Association in New York, January 28, 1954, under the chairmanship of JosephH. Keenan, who is also chairman of the Committee on Engineering Education. Speakers at the session were: N. H. Frank,Massachusetts Institute of Technology; L. E. Grinter,University of Florida, President of the American Society for Engineering Education; LloydP. Smith,Cornell University; and HomerL. Dodge,Norwich University. Their addresses, revised in some cases, are published hereafter for the benefit of members unable to attend the session, who are concerned about this problem of great significance both to physics teachers and to engineering educators.

摘要:
Several useful relationships regarding centers of gravity of plane figures are presented. The most useful are the fourth theorem, which shows a regularity existing among the degree of the equation, the area, and the centroidal distance, and the last theorem, which shows that theX-centroidal distances of the two parts of a rectangular lamina are in the ratio of 2 to 1.

摘要:
Although it was not until the seventeenth century A. D. that the principle of the conservation of momentum was formally enunciated by Newton, interesting applications of it were made as early as the sixth century B. C. Two such early applications are here illustrated and described.
