摘要:
Prepared at the request of the AAPT Committee on Resource Letters. This is one of a series of Resource Letters on different topics, intended to guide college physicists to some of the literature and other teaching aids that may help them improve course contents in specified fields of physics. No Resource Letter is meant to be exhaustive and complete; in time there may be more than one letter on some of the main subjects of interest. Comments and suggestions concerning the content and arrangement of letters as well as suggestions for future topics will be welcomed. Please send such communications to Professor Arthur Quinton, Chairman, Resource Letter Committee, Department of Physics, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts 01002.

摘要:
A historical analysis is given of the development by Larmor in 1900 of the Lorentz transformations of coordinates and time, and of electric and magnetic field components. The earlier work of Voigt is discussed.

摘要:
During a three-year period eight new astronomy courses have been developed at Moorhead State College, all of which are aimed primarily at liberal arts students. This article briefly describes the astronomy program, physical facilities, and equipment; attempts to identify those factors which led to the program's popularity; and makes some suggestions for others interested in introducing new astronomy courses. A specific proposal is made whereby the AAPT or other groups interested in science education can, at very minimal cost, substantially facilitate the introduction of new liberal arts physics and astronomy courses.

摘要:
A practice-teaching program directly related to a physics course for future elementary school teachers has been developed. Several student teaching experiences are described which demonstrate how this activity helps prepare future teachers to make effective use of the new inquiry-oriented science curricula. The contributions of the practice teaching program to the total effort in teacher education in the Physics Department are discussed.

摘要:
A solution in the adiabatic approximation of the Born-Oppenheimer type to Schrödinger's time-dependent equation in one dimension for a model three-body system is presented. The model problem for this system is a particle of mass m interacting with two attractive square wells that are receding at constant relative speed. Graphs of the time development of the probability distribution for the tunneling particle are presented for various initial conditions. The series of graphical solutions is useful as a visual aid in understanding the time development of a simplified three-body problem and the results of the model problem are used as a basis for understanding a nuclear reaction leading to three bodies in the final state.

摘要:
An electronic device is described which can be used for demonstrations and laboratory work in Fourier synthesis, Fourier analysis, phase and group speeds, beats and modulation, and Lissajous figures. The hardware required is inexpensive and simple. The system consists of a set of tuned feedback operational amplifiers and an operational amplifier in summing configuration, driven by a simple, readily available source which supplies a signal rich in the frequencies to which the amplifiers are tuned. The design for a power supply is included. The modes of use of the device are discussed. In each case alternative ways to deal with the same wave phenomenon are discussed to help the reader judge the value of the device.

摘要:
An algebraic definition of time differentiation is presented and used to relate independent-measurements of position and velocity. With this, students can grasp certain essential physical, geometric, and algebraic properties of motion and differentiation before undertaking the study of limits.

摘要:
Many problems involving maxima-minima and rate of change can be solved algebraically without using the notion of small increments as in calculus. The inverse process corresponds to integration. The method, first introduced by Saletan, is only restricted by one's ability to solve certain algebraic equations.
