摘要:
AbstractAn HPLC assay for the determination of silymarin in the fruits ofSilybum marianumis given. The effect of different water regimes and nitrogen fertilization levels on the silymarin content of cultivated plants grown in reclaimed desert land have been studied. The highest silymarin contents were obtained upon nitrogen fertilization with 100, 150 kg/feddan (1 feddan = 4200 m2) and a 60% water regime without fertilization compared to the content of silymarin in wild plants.

摘要:
AbstractGas chromatography was used to determine the chemical composition of the essential oil of female and hermaphroditeThymus baeticusBoiss. collected in Ugijar (province of Granada, Spain). The results were compared with the chemical composition of other samples of the same species, collected in Lanjarón. These comparisons showed some qualitative differences, and more obvious quantitative differences, in the compositions of the essential oils. We also investigated the antimicrobial activity of all samples. This activity, although marked in all samples, was greater in essential oils containing larger amounts of geraniol

摘要:
AbstractThe superoxide scavenging activity of lyophilized extract ofSempervivum tectorum(StF1) was determined by electron paramagnetic resonance spin trapping methods. The extract inhibited ascorbic acid induced and FeCl3stimulated lipid peroxidation and was concentration dependent in the liver microsomal fraction of rats.

摘要:
AbstractAmong the aqueous extracts of ten African medicinal plants traditionally used for the treatment of hepatic disease and which can inhibit hepatitis B virus antigen (HBsAg)in vitro, extracts from the leaf decoction ofCombretum glutinosumproved to be the most active (100–500 ng/mL−1). With solvents of increasing polarity, a precipitate was isolated from the methanolic phase of this extract which contains gallic tannins and these compounds may be responsible for the effect on angiotensin‐converting enzyme

摘要:
AbstractExperiments were carried out to determine the efficacy of theMikania cordataroot extract in the tissue repair activities in mice intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). We have estimated total plasma protein, albumin, globulin, blood urea, hepatic microsomal ribonucleic acid (RNA) and cytochrome P‐450 level. Acute single intraperitoneal administration of CCl4(1 mL of 20% v/v in olive oil/kg body weight) decreased albumin and increased globulin level and thereby reduced the albumin‐globulin ratio. A lower blood urea level was also noticed after treatment of mice with CCl4. A 1 h pretreatment with the root extract tended to reverse these features which were found to be dose‐dependent, but the results were statistically significant in the dose range of 100–150mg/kg. TheM. cordataroot extract (at 150mg/kg) dramatically improved the level of hepatic microsomal RNA (42.2%;p<0.001) and cytochrome P‐450 content (70.2%;p<0.001) that were altered in CCl4‐induced liver damage. Based on these observations, it is considered thatM. cordataroot extract may alleviate the deleterious effects of CCl4, protect the liver cells and activate the hepatic reticuloendothelial system‐mediated defence mechanism as well as the regeneration of prot
