摘要:
AbstractThe ethanolic extract ofZizyphus sativaGaertn (Syn. = Z. jujuba Mill.) fruit has been screened for anti‐inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, bronchodilator and antimicrobial activities. It has been found to produce significant inhibition of carrageenan‐induced paw oedema and cotton pellet‐induced granuloma pouch and a significant analgesic activity. It did not produce any significant effect on body temperature and isolated guinea pig tracheal chain. It inhibited the growth ofBacillus subtills.During acute toxiciry, test observations were made for 24 h while the animals were treated for 3 months in chronic treatment. External morphological changes, visceral toxiciry, haematological changes, spermatogenic dysfunction, besides effects on average body weight and vital organ weight were recorded. 摘要:
AbstractAcridone alkaloids of plants indigenous to the Orient were isolated and purified, and their chemical structures were determined. A total of 50 acridones and their synthetic derivatives were subjected to rapid screening for inhibition of macromolecular synthesis using radiolabeled precursors of DNA, RNA and protein. These compounds were then studied to examine cell growth inhibition of human promyelocytic leukemic cells (HL‐60). Cytotoxicity was studied using the trypan blue exclusion method. Of 50 compounds evaluated for cell growth inhibition, 12 compounds showed IC50<10 μM; 12 compounds, 10‐20 μM; 8 compounds, 20‐100 μM; and 18 compounds

AbstractThe studies presented here discuss the regression of an oral tumor cell line implanted into the hamster cheek pouch. Tumor cells injected into the cheek pouch of old hamsters allowed the rapid growth of the tumors in non‐immunosuppressed recipients, and the development of oral cancer in an annual population similar to the age that oral cancer normally presents in humans. This model was then utilized in tumor regression studies following the local injection of the carotenoid β‐carotene and an extract of Cyanobacteria containing β‐carotene and other carotenoids. Eighty male Syrian hamsters were divided into four groups. Five animals from each group were examined weekly for their tumor burden. After 4 weeks, 80% of the animals, and after 8 weeks, 85% of the Cyanobacteria‐treated hamsters, exhibited complete gross tumor regression. β‐Carotene treatment produced similar results. All hamsters that were injected with HCPC‐1 tumor cells and were untreated, developed tumors which progressed to a significant tumor burden (p<0.001). The cytokine tumor necrosis factor (TNF‐α) was localized to cells associated with tumor regression following carotenoid or algae treatment (p<0.001). Resident peritoneal macrophages (RPM) exhibited a significant increase in cytotoxicity when obtained from hamsters exhibiting complete regression of tumor (p<0.001). Intraperitoneally injected HCPC‐1 cells inhibited macrophage cytotoxicity. This effect was reversed following incubation with mitogen (LPS),

AbstractThe effects of shilajit and the combined effects of its main constituents, fulvic acids (FAs), 4′‐methoxy‐6‐carbomethoxybiphenyl (MCB) and 3,8‐dihydroxy‐dibenzo‐α‐pyrone (DDP), were studied in relation to the degranulation and disruption of mast cells against noxious stimuli. Shilajit and different combinations of FAs, MCB and DDP provided statistically significant protection to antigen‐induced degranulation of sensitized mast cells, markedly inhibited the antigen‐induced spasm of sensitized guinea‐pig ileum, and prevented mast cell disruption induced by compound 48/80. The findings are appraised in view of the clinical use of shilajit in the treatment of allergic disorders

AbstractResiniferatoxin (RTX), unlike the structurally related phorbol esters, acts as an ultrapotent analog of capsaicin, the pungent principle of the red pepper. A homovanillyl group is an essential structural feature of capsaicin and the most prominent feature distinguishing resiniferatoxin from typical phorbol‐related compounds. In this report, we examine the RTX‐like activity of two 20‐homovanillyl esters of diterpene derivatives with particular similarities to RTX. The potency of 12‐deoxyphorbol 13‐phenylacetate 20‐homovanillate (dPP‐HV) was comparable to RTX for local induction and desensitization of chemical pain but was 2–4 orders of magnitude less potent for the other RTX responses tested (stimulation and desensitization of neurogenic inflammation and hypothermia). Mezerein 20‐homovanillate (Mez‐HV) displayed very weak activity in pain induction and was inactive in the other assays. The parent derivatives ‐ resiniferonol orthophenylacetate, 12‐deoxyphorbol 13‐phenylacetate and mezerein ‐ were inactive in inducing RTX‐like effects. Reciprocally, the presence of the 20‐homovanillate ester reduced binding affinities to protein kinase C by 11‐, 130‐ and 690‐fold for RTX, dPP‐HV and Mez‐HV, respectively. Our findings provide further evidence for heterogeneity among capsaicin‐sensitive pathways.
