AbstractFunctional polymers, i.e. synthetic or artificial polymers substituted with specific chemical groups borne by the macromolecular chain, interact specifically with living systems. Typical functional polymers derived from polystyrene and dextran are reviewed. First, antithrombogenic heparin‐like polymers interact specifically with serine‐proteases involved in the coagulation cascade. They have anticoagulant properties. 摘要:
AbstractA classical treatment of fluid phase separations in polymeric systems puts individual experimental data into a wider perspective and allows general relationships to be recognized. Pressure, an important variable in polymer production and processing, is dealt with by simple extensions of existing molecular models capable of covering known data and predicting other properties in a reasonably accurate manner. Disparity in size and shape between molecules and/or repeat units implies differences in numbers of nearest‐neighbour contacts. This molecular feature is found to be of primary importance when it comes to match model equations to data, for polymer solutions as well as polymer mixtures. AbstractThe reaction of the OH radical with some carboxylic and hydroxycarboxylic acids was investigated by trapping the resultant radicals as endgroups of poly(methyl methacrylate), which were detected and estimated by the sensitive dye partition technique. The rate constants of the reaction at 25°C andpH = 1.0 with formic, propionic, butyric, valeric, lactic, and tartaric acids were determined. The increasing reactivity of the acids with increasing chain length is explained by the decreasing deactivation of the CH2group, from which H‐abstraction occurs, by the preceding COOH group. The higher reactivity of formic acid than acetic or propionic acid, and the higher reactivity of lactic acid than propionic acid are explained by the increased electron density at the site of H‐abstrac

AbstractThe copolymerization of maleic anhydride (MA), N‐2‐chlorophenyl maleimide (2‐CMI) and N‐α‐naphthyl maleimide (α‐NMI) with styrene (ST) initiated by α‐radiation has been studied.
