AbstractGeneral presentations of emulsion polymerization mechanism are considered with due account of the polarity of the monomer, its solubility in water, type of emulsifier and initiator, mechanism of the formation of particles (micellar, homogeneous and microemulsification) as well as peculiar features of mass transfer of the monomer to local polymerization zones. The kinetics of elementary reactions (initiation, propagation, termination and transfer) of emulsion polymerization is discussed. The features of these reactions are considered on condition of localization of radical formation acts in the area of absorbing layers of the emulsifier. Gross kinetics of emulsion polymerization is discussed.

AbstractAn Fraktionen aus linearem und verzweigtem Polyethylen wurde elektronenmikroskopisch der Einfluß der Molekülmasse von M̄w≈︁ 6. 105und des Verzweigungsgrades vonV≈︁ 0,3 bis 3 CH3/100 C auf die Morphologie untersucht. Die Fraktionen haben jeweils sehr enge Molekülmassenverteilung; sie sind so ausgesucht und zu Gruppen zusammengestellt, daß für jeweils ähnliche Molekülmassen der Verzweigungsgrad variiert und umgekehrt. Den dominierenden Einfluß sowohl auf die überlamellare Struktur als auch auf die Gestalt, die Länge und die Dicke der Lamellen besitzt bei allen Verzweigungsgraden die Molekülmasse. AbstractMittels Elektronenmikroskopie und Röntgenweitwinkelstreuung werden an unterschiedlichen Cellulosearten Veränderungen der Morphologie in Verbindung mit dem Gitterumwandlungsprozeß infolge Einwirkung wäßriger und ethanolischer NaOH‐Lösungen untersucht. Es wurde festgestellt, daß mit der Gitterumwandlung von Cellulose I in Cellulose II generell Veränderungen der mikrofibrillaren morphologischen Struktur der Cellulose verbunden sind, wobei Unterschiede zwischen Bakteriencellulose (BC) und Fichtensulfitzellstoff (FSZ) einerseits und Baumwoll‐Linters (BWL) andererseits bestehen. Durch Einwirkung wäßriger NaOH wird die mikrofibrillare Struktur von BC und FSZ zerstört, während bei BWL feinfibrillare, flexible Strukturelemente verbleiben. AbstractThe data obtained by investigating the effect of thepH value on the colloid‐chemical properties of carboxyl‐containing latices are related to the formation and properties of films. In contrast to other dispersions, those containing copolymers being characterized by polymethacrylic acid contents higher than a certain value the latex and films properties were found to be related in a particular way to thepH value. AtpH values between 3 and 8.5 no effect on the properties of the dispersion was observed, while the properties of films were found to be affected. BeyondpH = 8.5 a correlation between the changes of the properties of films and dispersions was established. By means of various physico‐chemical methods these characteristics were found to be caused by conformational transitions in the macromolecular associates forming the latex part

AbstractMittels der Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie und einer speziell erarbeiteten Methodik der Probenpräparation, welche die Beobachtung einzelner Polydichlorphosphazenmakromoleküle ermöglicht, wurden die Anfangsstadien der Schmelzepolymerisation von Hexachlorcyclotriphosphazen bei 250°C untersucht. Es wurden große kugelförmige Teilchen nachgewiesen, die von einer hohen Kettenwachstumsgeschwindigkeit zeugen. AbstractEin neues kinetisches Modell der Emulsionspolymerisation bei Ablauf von Radikaldesorptionen und ‐reabsorptionen wird mit anderen aus der Literatur bekannten Bruttogeschwindigkeitsmodellen für Vinylchlorid als Monomer verglichen. Dabei hat das Wachstum der desorbierenden Kettenüberträgerradikale für die Polymerisationskinetik besondere Bedeutung. AbstractThe paper deals with a new model for simulating the topological constraints in polymer networks. The constraining potential and its deformation dependence were calculated via the free energy of the constraining chains in dependence on the displacement of the constrained segments.
