摘要:
This paper documents the development of an expert system for rock mass classification for use on microcomputers. The expert system called. EMC was. developed using an expert system shell FLOPS. FLOPS is a shell based on the Al language 0PS5 with many unique features. The system RMC utilizes most of these unique features. Among the features used are approximate reasoning with fuzzy sets, the blackboard architecture and the emulated parallel processing of fuzzy production rules. Details of the development of RMC including discussion of some relevant fuzzy set backgrounds are described in this paper.

摘要:
Expert systems are fast becoming the leading branch of artificial intelligence technology. An expert system tool, ‘The Deciding Factor’, was investigated for use in building a Lightning protection decision system, an expert system for structures. The system described in this paper is a diagnostic expert system, developed for IBM PCs. There are a number of factors affecting the risk of the structure being struck by lightning and consequential effects of a stroke, which are capable of assessment. National Building Code of India has specified some judgemental and heuristic rules to combine these factors. The system was developed to model this expertise and to provide consultation to the user. This paper addresses the issue of knowledge engineering and demonstrates the ease with which the ‘knowledge engineer’ himself can build the systems with the use of an expert system shell.

摘要:
This paper describes an approach to evaluate the safety of existing buildings, which is different from current reliability methods. The approach combines subjective judgement and empirical or objective data to give an approximate estimate of the possibility of failure of the building. Fuzzy sets are used to model linguistic and qualitative factors which are important to structural safety but are ignored in the current practices. Advantages and difficulties of the possibility approach are discussed. A three-members frame is used to illustrate the methodology.

摘要:
This paper discusses the development of two large-scale nonlinear optimization models, one stochastic and the other deterministic, for the optimal positioning of remote automatic weather stations (sensors) in an area of Southern California prone to forest fires. The requirements to implement the models under rather incomplete information are discussed and numerical results are presented which demonstrate the superiority of the stochastic model.

摘要:
A modified fault tree analysis for structural systems is introduced to determine potential structural problems. The analysis incorporates the development of fault tree models and qualitative evaluation of the models, producing the minimal cut sets that will guarantee the occurrence of a predetermined top event. Structural dependencies and modes of failure are also included in the analysis. The study indicates the enabling, triggering and conditional fault events as the basic events that contribute to component failures. Examples and a case study are presented.
