摘要:
summaryBuilding upon early work of E. A. Cornish we show that G. N. Wilkinson's version of Yates' approach to the analysis of designed experiments with a single error stratum carries over completely to designs with an arbitrary non‐singular covariance matrix, initially assumed known. We show that the equations, corrections, adjustments and algorithms all have their more general analogues and that these can be solved, computed or executed quite readily if the design has orthogonal block structure and satisfies Nelder's condition of general balance. The results are illustrated with a split‐plot and a simple (square) lattice des

summaryThe concept of risk function is extended to the situation where the “life” of the specimen is represented by a vector of dimension greater than one. Model‐building, estimation of parameters and goodness of fit are discussed. The model is applied to fatigue failure of reinforced concrete beams where two separate indicators of damage are moni

摘要:
summaryConsider the game where a Bayesian investor places a series of bets on the outcomes of a sequence of tosses of a coin with odds set by a Bayesian bookie. It is shown that at each toss the investor can have non‐negative expected winnings even though after many tosses the two posterior distributions are nearly equivalen

摘要:
summaryAn explicit algorithm is given for constructing a confidence region on the appropriate unit sphere for an eigenvector, given a large sample. It is assumed the eigenvector corresponds to the largest eigenvalue ofExxT, a matrix with distinct eigenvalues, and that the estimation usesn‐1S̀xixixT. While the theory is generally applicable, the writer has in mind the special case where ∥x∥= 1 i.e. directiona

summaryIn this note we provide sufficient conditions for the minimaxity of linear estimators of the formaX+bin the one‐parameter exponential family for estimating a differentiable functiong(θ) with normalized quadratic loss. We provide some examples which show that the natural estimator X is minimax in estimating a function of the parameter (different from the mea

摘要:
summaryA continuous time stochastic model for an irreversible system ofkcompartments with nonhomogeneous Poisson inputs is considered. The model allows an arbitrary residence time for each of the compartments. Individuals may enter the system through any compartment and may depart from the system via any compartment.

摘要:
summaryA new general class ofm‐class cyclic association scheme is defined forvtreatments, wherevis a composite number. A simple method of construction of PBIB designs having this association scheme using more than one initial block and some methods using only one initial block are proposed. A complete analysis of this type of PBIB designs is given. Also given is a list of 39 useful PBIB designs of this type havingv≤15 andr≤10 and having only three associate classes together with their efficiency factors for all types of comparisons and over all efficiency fa

摘要:
summaryThis paper discusses the traditional specification problem from a geometric (or co‐ordinate‐free) viewpoint. While the traditional emphasis is on the properties of estimators, the geometric approach also allows an easy development of corresponding results for inference. Errors arising from artificial inclusion or exclusion of variables are considered in terms of augmentations or restrictions on a given maintained hypothesis, and this allows a corresponding interpretation of tests based upon the Wald and Lagrange Multiplier Principles. It is demonstrated that biases arising from incorrect exclusion of variables do not invalidate the traditionalF
