The immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations of 254 raw milk samples collected from the province of British Columbia (Canada) in 1990 and 1991 ranged from 0.030 to 0.71 mg ml‐1, with mean and median values of 0.28 and 0.27 mg ml‐1respectively in 1990, and 0.25 and 0.24 mg ml‐1respectively in 1991. Although significant differences were noted in IgG contents of milks from five geographical areas and 14 dairies for each of the 2 years, there were also significant differences between milks from year to year. All of the milks showed measurable antigen‐binding activity in enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) against the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) fractions of five bacteria (Shigella flexneri 1A, Escherichia coli O111:B4, Escherichia coli O128:B12, Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis). An immune milk obtained from vaccinated cows showed significantly higher anti‐S. enteritidis LPS activity than any of the raw milk samples. However, levels of specific anti‐LPS activity against the other four bacteria were roughly of the same order of magnitude for raw milk samples and the immune milk.

The presence of anti‐carbohydrate immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies was investigated in a group of 54 patients who were sensitive to at least two pollen species and at least five vegetable foods. Enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and ELISA inhibition assays were performed with immobilized food‐related oligosaccharides (e.g. stachyose from legumes) and extracts of plant gums (e.g. gum arabic), as well as with allergen extracts from apples, celery and other fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, a combined procedure of immunoblotting and periodate treatment was applied to identify the epitope nature of glycans from vegetable food glycoproteins. The results suggested that 12/54 of the sera contained IgE antibodies against carbohydrate structures. The antibodies were also found to be highly cross‐reactive. For six patients, galactose may be an important epitope. The clinical relevance of the phenomenon requires further investigation.

摘要:
A survey of AFM1residues in 58 commercial milk powder samples was carried out using an enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on a monoclonal antibody against aflatoxin M1(AFM1). The samples were collected from the USA (10), China (28), Italy (14), New Zealand (3) and Poland (3). The ELISA was performed without the need for clean‐up procedures. The data revealed that 4 (US), 21 (Chinese) and 1 (Polish) samples were positive for AFM1, with an average of 95.5, 102.8 and 85.0 pg g‐1of the AFM1respectively.
