摘要:
Factors associated with and reasons for compliance and dropout in cardiac exercise rehabilitation programs are discussed. Although certain factors may he associated with compliance or dropout, they do not predict compliance or dropout accurately. There is evidence that lack of spousal support, inconvenient programming, impersonal and unreceptive staff, and lack of long-term commitment are important reasons for dropout. These, and other factors, provide useful guidelines for the program director. Behavior management strategies and techniques for improving compliance need further investigation in patients who are interested in becoming physically active in a safe and appropriate manner.

摘要:
Adherence to exercise, weight loss, and fitness changes in obese children is reported in a meta-analysis across four controlled-outcome studies from, the Pittsburgh Childhood Obesity Research Program. Results showed lower adherence in programs with higher caloric expenditure. Exercise adherence was related to changes in weight, fitness using the step test, and adherence to both record keeping and eating requirements. Problems in the use of end points such as weight and fitness changes for measures of adherence are discussed.

摘要:
The present paper focuses on various methods of behavior change derived from the field of behavioral psychology and discusses how they might be used to improve adherence to exercise regimens. The techniques described include shaping, stimulus and reinforcement control, behavioral contracting, cognitive self-control strategies, generalization training, reinforcement fading, and relapse innoculation. Examples and appropriate precautions are provided from research on exercise/rehabilitation programs.
