AbstractThe selective effect of oxathiin compounds (DCMO) on basidiomycetes does not depend on stronger accumulation of the fungicide by sensitive fungi. Uptake of DCMO is closely related to the lipid content of a fungus. It is shown by electron microscopy that within 120 min DCMO damages the mitochondrial system and the vacuolar membrane, while plasmalemma, nuclear membrane and ER remain unchanged.In isolated mitochondria of sensitive fungi DCMO causes a similar inhibition of respiration as in whole cells. Succino‐dehydrogenase (SDH) is inhibited to the same extent, while NADH‐dehydrogenase is only weakly inhibited and malate‐dehydrogenase not at all. AbstractDie Aktivität der Alaninaminotransferase vonNeurosporaist mit Aminosäuren als N‐Quelle höher als mit NH 4+. In „shift”︁‐Versuchen induzieren Aminosäuren die Enzymsynthese.Das Enzym zeigt während des Wachstums unabhängig von der N‐Quelle zwei Maxima der spezifischen Aktivität; das erste liegt in der lag‐Phase bzw. in der frühen exponentiellen Phase, das zweite bei Beginn der Autolyse.Alaninaminotransferase wird vom Mycel in zwei Phasen produziert, einmal zu Beginn des Wachstums, zum zweiten in der stationären Phase. AbstractAfter a short revue on the biological exploration of Surtsey, 1964–1970, a report is given of a stay on Surtsey in 1969, the collecting of samples and the microbiological examination of the samples. The main problem is to recognize the pioneer organisms of the colonization of the ashes, the tephra and lava away from the coast where no permanent accumulation of fresh water exists and the process of mechanical and chemical weathering is just beginning. Several biotops have been characterized by germ numbers and biochemical groups of bacteria. The most active, biologically, was the biotop of the fumaroles. The results have been discussed and a program for further exploration has been outline

AbstractRavenelia breyniaeSYDOW, parasitic onMelanthesa rhamnoidesBLUME is autoecious, producing pycnia, uredinoid aecia, uredia, and telia. The teliospores differentiate by elongation of cells in the top stromatal layer while the central cuboid cells differentiate into a compound pedicel. The cell layer immediately below the maturing teliospore provides the cysts, one for each teliospore. Appendages on the surface of the teliospores differentiate from material of the apical wall.
