摘要:
AbstractA newStreptomycesspecies is described for which the nameS. maghwiis proposed. The organism is characterized by a pink mass of aerial mycelium, spiral spore chains, spores with smooth surfaces and a nonchromogenic vegetative mycelium.S. maghwiproduces roflamycoin (SCHLEGELet al.1981) formerly known as flavomycoin (SCHLEGELet al.1971). The type strain ofS. maghwiis deposited with CBS, Netherland.

摘要:
The general control of amino acid biosynthesis was investigated inCandida spec.EH 15/D, using single and double mutant auxotrophic strains and prototrophic revertants starved for their required amino acids. These experiments show that starvation for lysine, histidine, arginine, leucine, threonine, proline, serine, methionine, homoserine, asparagine, glutamic acid or aspartic acid can result in derepression of enzymes. A correlation was found between the degree of derepression, growth of strains, and concentration of required amino acids. The amino acids pcol pattern of mutants and revertants is different from that in the wild type strain.

摘要:
AbstractThe capacity of Streptomycetes to carry out cyanide‐resistant respiration was investigated. With the model strain,Streptomyces citreofluorescens, it was shown that deprivation of glucose followed by transition from exponential to stationary growth was coupled with declining sensitivity of cellular respiration to cyanide ions. Cyanide‐resistant oxidase is located within the cytoplasmic membrane. The occurrence of the cyanide‐resistant oxidase did not correspond to qualitative changes of cytochrome spectrum. 摘要:
AbstractEffects of rice‐field herbicide benthiocarb (S‐(4‐chlorobenzyl)‐N,N‐diethyl thiolcarbamate) was studied on the nitrogen‐fixing blue‐green algaNostoc linckia.The herbicide caused inhibition of growth and heterocyst formation, an increase in intensity of photoacoustic signals, and a four‐fold reduction in oxygen evolution, but did not affect dark O2‐uptake. The inhibition of growth and heterocyst formation was relieved by 500 μg/ml glucose. A Het−Nif−mutant ofNostoc muscorumfailed to show an increase in reversion frequency after treatment with 10 μg/

摘要:
AbstractChlorophyll stability index of eight subaerial blue‐green algal species, collected from their natural habitats,i.e., bark of trees, soil and roof‐tops and from cultures, has been determined. The algae from natural habitats showed greater chlorophyll stability compared to those algae from cultures. Among the natural algae, high chlorophyll stability was observed in the algae inhabiting adverse habitats. A slight modification in the method of MURTY and MAJUMDER (1962) for determination of chlorophyll stability index has been made. AbstractA bacterial isolate, strain FMn 1, from reservoir sediment oxidized Mn2+when tested in growing culture and resting‐cell suspension. The oxidation was biologically mediated and not the result of autoxidation because at a MnSO4· H2O concentration of 0.05%. The pH remained below 7.5 for the duration of the experiments.
