摘要:
A quantitative study of over 1000 skins of Redshank from Iceland to India and China forms the basis of a complete revision of the taxonomy of the species throughout its present geographical range. Problems of dimorphism and hybridization are also discussed.

摘要:
Atractomorpha acutipennis(Guerin‐Meneville) comprises four ill‐defined, somewhat arbitrary subspecies:A. a. acutipennis, from Madagascar and the Comoro Islands;A. a. gerstaeckeriBolivar, widely distributed in Africa;A. a. brevisUvarov from south‐western Arabia; andA. a. blanchardiBolivar, from other parts of south‐western Asia. The full synonymy and the localities from which each subspecies is known ar

摘要:
Taxonomic characters which have been used in defining the genera of Diopsidae are discussed with special reference to the structure of the head and eyestalks. In consequence, the subdivisions of this family put forward by Hennig in 1965 are revised and extended, a new scheme of three subfamilies being proposed and a possible phylogenetic sequence of genera suggested.A key for the identification of these subfamilies and current generic taxa is given.

摘要:
Several series of measurements of eyestalks and of other parameters are presented graphically to demonstrate the forms of sexual dimorphism in five species of Diopsidae and one stalk‐eyed species of each of the families Tephritidae and Platystomidae. In the case ofPseudodiopsis detrahens(Walker) dimorphism of eyestalks is ‘concealed’ but in other cases it is clearly demonstrated; eyestalks of the males are, on average, longer than those of females, but there is generally considerable overlap in larger populations.Owing to the extent of variability, length (actual or relative) can only be used as a taxonomic character with much greater caution than has been exercised in the

摘要:
The confused nomenclature concerning two European cockles is discussed. Reasons are given to support the genus nameCerastodermain preference toCardiumand the use of the specific nameglaucumin place oflamarcki. It is concluded that the correct names of the two cockles under discussion areCerastoderma edule(L.) andCerastoderma glaucum(Poiret).
