摘要:
An account of the anatomy ofChelidonura inornataBaba,C. electroRudmao,“Navanax” inermis(Cooper) andAglaja ocelligeraBergh.NavanaxPilsbry is shown to be a junior synonym ofAglajaRenier. A detailed comparative study of the anatomy, and in particular, the external body form, diaphragm, labial glands, alimentary canal, reproductive system, penis structure and shell, show that the described species of the Aglajidae can be divided into four distinct genera:AglajaRenier,ChelidonuraA. Adams,PhilinopsisPease andMelanochlamysCheeseman. All described species, with available anatomical information, are listed; 10 species inAglaja, 17 species inChelidonura, 12 species inPhilinopsis, and 8 species inMelanochlamys.Twenty‐three other species are listed, but insufficient published information is available to determine their correct generic pos

摘要:
Much emphasis has been placed on the middle ear region of reptiles and mammals as a taxonomic character. However, the anatomy of the middle ear region of birds has yet to be described adequately. The literature on the middle ear of birds is reviewed briefly and then the osteology and soft anatomy of the middle ear region of the skull are described for the families of the avian order Procellariiformes. Particular emphasis is paid to the foramina and paths of the nerves and blood vessels. Also discussed is the morphology of the basicranium and the quadrate. Comparative analyses of the characters are used to assess taxonomic conclusions.

摘要:
Fine closely‐packed parallel fibres pass obliquely, at an angle of about 10° to the horizontal, through the cuticles ofCancerandCarcinus. They lie on axes parallel to the four faces of an obtuse pyramid, and have no counterpart in the model proposed by Bouligand (1965, 1971, 1972).Replication of vertically broken surfaces of cuticle on cellulose acetate film shows that the laminae of the cuticle are discrete structural entities which preserve their identity around the angle formed by two vertical faces meeting at right‐angles. This does not conform to the requirements of the Bouligand m

摘要:
Encentrum linnhei, a new marine rotifer from the west coast of Scotland is described. The structure of the trophi together with other characters clearly distinguish it from other species of the genusEncentrum. The work of Harring&Myers (1928) in clarifying the systematics of the Dicranophorinae greatly facilitated the “running down” of characters. A method of germ‐free monoxenic culture of the rotifer is also desc
