There has been confusion over the identity of two of the original six species of parrotfish described from the Red Sea by Forsskål (1775)‐Scarus psittacus and S. ferrugineus.The former of these is significant as the type species ofScarus.A study of the Red Sea scarids indicates that Forsskål's descriptions apply to two common species of Red Sea parrotfish.S. psittacusis the wide‐ranging Indo‐Pacific species currently recognised asS. forsteriValenciennes, which is a senior synonym ofS. forskalii Klunzinger, S. bataviensis Bleeker and Xanothon canifanusSmith. The description ofScarsus ferrugineusis that of the primary (female) phase of a species which may be endemic to the Red Sea area. This phase has also been described in Cuvier and Valenciennes asS. aeruginosus, while the terminal (male) phase is described there asS. coerulescens. 摘要:
The central nervous system ofStiliger fuscatushas two ganglia on the visceral loop. The superficial buccal musculature includes an ascus muscle; its contraction drives the lower limb of the radula in the action of piercing an algal wall. The reproductive system is described in functional terms and related to those of other species of the family Stiligeridae. The vagina does not open to the exterior and the penial style is of the penetrant type; fertilization is by hypodermic impregnation. The system could be called pseudo‐diaulic and this term is explained in the additional note

摘要:
The systematics of the genusDodecaceriais confused due to the morphological similarity of species. Eleven out of a total of fourteen species in the genus were compared by their morphology, chaetal type and distribution, numbers of branchial cirri and body segments and by their methods of reproduction. The genus is remarkable for showing sexual, asexual and parthenogenetic reproduction which were briefly reviewed. Of the different methods of comparison those using the types of reproduction were thought to be the most useful. The entirely descriptive methods were felt to be entirely inadequate.

摘要:
Estrous cycle was studied in a rodent pest from behavioural and physiological standpoints. The bandicoot rat showed four stages of the cycle. The duration of proestrus was significantly lower, and that of estrus and metestrus were higher in this species. Total length of the cycle was also higher. Variation in the duration of stages or cycle observed in the bandicoot rat is suggested to be species specific.
