A scanning electron microscope study of the morphological changes which occur in shells of hen and quail eggs during incubation is described. The results are compared with observations on the shells of hatched eggs taken from a range of species. It was found that less change occurred in the shells of altricial species than precocial ones, the difference being associated presumably with a smaller calcium requirement for developing altricial embryos. The cores rather than the sides of mammillae appeared to be the major sites of erosion.

Three families of Psylloidea are known to oecur in temperate South America, two of which, the Calophyidae and the Triozidae, are revised here. The Calophyidae are represented in temperate South America by two congeneric species onSchinusspp. (Anacardiaceae). The Triozidae include five genera with 35 species on Berberidaceae, Compositae, Euphorbiaceae, Lauraceae, and perhaps also on Myrtaceae, Rutaceae and Ulmaceae. The two largest species groups ofTriozadevelop mainly onBaccharisspp. andBerberisspp. and form an important part of the temperate neotropical psyllid fauna. Both are taxonomically difficult groups as morphological differences between species are small and intraspecific variation is large. Twenty species are described as new. Four new generic and five new specific synonyms and ten new combinations are proposed. One name is considered to be a nomen dubium. The descriptions of adults are supplemented by information on larvae and host plants. Lectotypes are designated for nine species. Keys are provided for the identification to species.

A new genus of freshwater hoplonemertean from Chile is described and namedKoinoporus mapochi gen. et sp. nov.Its most characteristic taxonomic features are: rhynchodaeum and oesophagus open into a common atrium; somatic musculature present around the stomach and anterior region of the intestine; and ovoviviparity. This is the first description of an ovoviviparous limnetic nemertean.Koinoporusbelongs to the family T***trastemmidae and its general morphology relates it to the genusProstoma.
