摘要:

AbstractOn the basis of quantified data, involving distribution of foliar free amino acids in eight taxa of IndianSida, it is inferred that they show only a distant kindship. The cluster analysis based on the amino acid profiles also reveals thatS. rhombifoliassp.rhombifoliaandS. rhombifoliassp.retusawarrant their elevation to the rank of individual species.

AbstractThe effect of salinity has been examined on osmolality, electric conductivity andpH values of cell‐sap and mineral composition (macro and micro nutrient elements) of barley (Hordeum vulgareL.), wheat (Triticum aestivumL.), and maize (Zea maysL.). The results show that with the exception of potassium and nitrogen contents the levels of most inorganic macro nutrient elements (sodium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus) and micro nutrient elements (iron, boron, zinc, manganese, copper and chloride) increased with increase salinity concentrations. AbstractThe present study indicates the abundant occurrence of two types of fibers (bark and xylem fibers) in the stem tissues of the evergreen circum‐Mediterranean shrubT. hirsuta.The bark fibers have cellulosic walls, and are much longer, and narrower in diameter and lumen. The means of these variables are 3329, 12.6, and 6.9 microns respectively. On the other hand, xylem fibers have lignified walls. The means of their length, diameter, and lumen are 824, 13.9, and 7.8 microns respectively. The frequency distribution of the length of both types of fibers are presented. The fiber dimensions of this plant are comparable to those of many soft and hardwoods, and more suitable, from the papermaking point of view, than those of bagasse and rice straw: the main local materials for the production of paper in Egyp

摘要:

AbstractThe structure, development and distribution of stomata in the leaves, stems and fruits of five Indian species of Cucurbitaceae are studied. Anomocyclic, haplocytic, and paracytic stomata are observed. The abnormalities like stoma with one guard cell, unequal guard cells, without guard cells and contiguous stomata are also reported.

AbstractChromosome numbers of twenty‐five weed species belonging to the generaCrotalaria, Eriosema, IndigoferaandSesbaniawere determined for the first time from Jos Plateau, Nigeria. Two species ofCrotalaria, C. lachnosemaandC. longifoliolataare reported cytologically for the first time, while the chromosome number of theCrotalaria recta, (n= 7) andEriosema psoraleoides, (n= 10) do not agree with the previous reports.
