摘要:
AbstractThe structure and organographic distribution of trichomes in sixPhysalisL. (Solanaceae) taxa available in the Indian natural populations have been studied. In all, seven trichome types are recognised. Structurally they are distinguishable into two hair classes one comprising sequence from unbranched hairs to branched, dendritic hairs with or without glandular tips. While the other class consists of short hairs each tipped with a unicellular or multicellular head. Of the seven types recognised the unbranched eglandular trichomes present in all the six taxa. Branched trichomes are absent inP. minimaandP. angulata.Whereas branched hairs are available with all the other taxa studied.P. peruvianacan easily be identified by its dentritic trichomes present in its corolla thorat. The white flowered form is the only form having branched glandular hairs. The glabrescent form is having glabrescent texture and the storied gland with unicellular head. There is no storied glandular trichomes in the case ofP. pubescenswhich is having long silvery hairs around the stem. The distribution of trichomes in general is taxonomically significant. Accordingly a key based on the trichome types for identification of the species is presented.

摘要:
AbstractLeaf epidermal structure of 30 trees distributed in 17 dicotyledenous families was studied. Interspecific variation in cell wall pattern was observed in the two species ofMacarangacovered in this study. The cells were straight‐walled inM. barteribut sinuously‐walled inM. monandra. In addition to this variation, peltate hairs were observed inM. barteri. The two species also varied in their stomatal faetures.Alchorneawas another species which showed interspecific variation in epidermal and stomatal features. Stellate hairs were observed inA. cordifoliabut were absent inA. laxiflora.Mature stomata were paracytic inA. cordifoliabut inA. laxiflorathey were anomocytic. Differences in stomatal size and frequency were also observed in the two species. Contiguous stomata were reported here forAvicennia africana, Mitragyna inermisandPterygota macroca

摘要:
AbstractFoliar stomatal distribution and their taxonomic significance in 45 taxa belonging to 19 genera of the Amaranthaceae have been investigated. Of these, 41 taxa show amphistomatic leaves and the rest are hypostomatic. Based on the dispersion and orientation of stomata, six basic and combination patterns each have been recognised. Many taxa reveal diagnostic stomatal distributional patterns and their taxonomic utility has been discussed. Further, an attempt is made to correlate the stomatal distribution with the plant habit.
