摘要:
On 19 September 1997, Richard Wiegandt celebrated his 65th birthday. As can be seen from his impressive list of publications, he is one of the most active algebraists of the last forty years working mostly in ring theory and related topics. The present note, which is an extended version of an invited talk given at the ICOR 97, is intended to show up some highlights in Richard Wiegandt's development in radical theory, one of his main points of interest. It is thus far away from presenting a complete overview of Wiegandt's scientific work. Some emphasis is given to his older papers, maybe less known to the actual radical community.

摘要:
IfRis a ring andnis an integer weMaydefine a ringTn(R) on the same underlying additive abelian group by using the formula a * b =nabto define a new multiplication.Tn, is a functor on the category of associative rings. IfCis a class of rings then, for each n, the classCn, is defined to consist of all ringsRsuch thatTn(R) is inC.IfCis a radical class then each classCn, is also a radical class. We consider the properties of the radical classCwhich are inherited byCn, and relationships between these classes Cnasnvaries.

摘要:
This paper surveys a selection of results in the literature on torsion preradicals; these are left exact preradical functors on the category of unital right modules over an associative ring with identity. Various well known classes of rings such as semisimple, artinian, perfect and strongly prime are characterized in terms of torsion preradicals. A classification of prime rings using torsion preradicals is also exhibited. Rings all of whose torsion preradicals are radicals and rings whose torsion preradicals commute, are investigated. An application of the latter condition to Jacobson's Conjecture is presented.
