摘要:
In our original article on counselor burnout (P&G, December 1976), John Shelton and I suggested that counselor‐education programs created expectations for counseling that could not be realized within agency settings and contributed to counselor frustrations and disillusionment. We pointed out that one reason this problem was not widely discussed was because of the concern of counselors that their colleagues would attribute their open expression of disillusionment to their personal weaknesses. In a reply to the article, David V. Tiedeman (P&G, September 1977) took precisely this position and attributed our motivation for writing the article to our own “mid‐life” crisis. This article broadens the issue to one of a fundamental difference in the ways we tend to locate the origins of problems and what this means for bringing about

摘要:
Warnath and Shelton's three‐stage description of the counselor's transition from education to work is in general accord with experience and study of career development. But their “Solutions?” are mostly non sequiturs of that development. I question their assumptions in their “Solutions?” that the purpose of counseling should be to counsel, that the counselor's career development is complete as described, and that counselors should just let their careers happen rather than try to make them happen. I suggest rapprochement of Warnath and Shelton's views and my views on grounds that the career problem rests in both the situation and the

摘要:
The norm for mental health is not what it should be. Counseling theory is currently expanding its horizons to encompass higher potential of human behavior. The Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI) is presented as a theoretical model for the promotion of more complete development of the individual. SCI's applied aspect, the Transcendental Meditation program, is discussed in terms of research data and its application to the developmental concepts of readiness, intensity of challenge, and identify. The article concludes with a preliminary discussion of the possible interface of present counseling modalities and the practice of SCI. Perhaps SCI has relevance to planning for the promotion of greater mental health.

摘要:
The primary objective of this study was to determine which of two sociological theories of dating preference was more powerful in predicting women's actual dating frequency. The two theories tested were Waller's theory, which emphasizes physical attractiveness, and Blood's theory, which emphasizes personality. The present study supported Waller's theory. Discussion and implications for women and counselors are presented.

摘要:
Motive to avoid success (M‐s) describes the inner conflict that high‐achieving females experience when they are confronted with academic success. Little research has been done on M‐s in a predominantly female occupation. Evidence of the trait was detected in a sample of 462 female students at the associate degree and bachelor's degree levels of the medical laboratory profession when they were compared with 118 male peers. An academic variable (high school rank) and two motivational variables (idealized and realistic degree aspiration) were employed. Counseling techniques and recommended areas of future M‐s research are pr

摘要:
Three experiments studied the influence on hiring decisions of the nonverbal communication of female job applicants. The first experiment found ratings of the applicants' subtle cues to be significant predictors of the hiring decisions made by college‐student judges. Professional employment interviewers served as judges in the second study to cross‐validate the first experiment. The third study measured the relative contributions of work histories and nonverbal behavior to hiring decisions. Regardless of the work history preceding the applicant, nonverbal style had a statistically significant effect on hiring decisi

摘要:
Many individuals in our society experience degrees of psychological and spiritual deadness. This early‐death syndrome is contrasted with a view of life that encompasses the concept of an ongoing prime through growth in psychological and spiritual aliveness. A four‐dimensional model of career is presented that incorporates existential concepts and advocates attention to both experiences and personal philosophy as factors in the attainment of a meaningful life‐

摘要:
SCOPE is a comprehensive career‐counseling program presently in operation at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, New Jersey. It consists of a basic program plus a cluster of supplemental, optional exercises. The basic program has a sequence of four career‐planning phases, one of which applies to each undergraduate year. Efforts are made to process students systematically through the entire basic program. An individual checklist kept for each participating student provides an internal mechanism for program evaluation and modification. Early results suggest effectiveness and positive student reacti

摘要:
What is needed in the face of the changes and challenges offered women today is a multidimensional three‐career approach to career planning: an approach that takes into account individual, relationship, and lifework needs and satisfactions. Responsible college counseling should intervene at this point and provide, rather than simple job placement or even career development, a method of creative life planning sensitive to the acknowledged stages of adult development. Through individual counseling, use of role models, seminars and workshops, group discussions and resource centers, the hard, meaningful questions of life planning can be asked and answere
