This paper describes the development and initial testing of a computer‐based counseling system which attempted to simulate certain counseling behavior of one counselor. Forty junior high school students experienced counseling (educational planning) with the system, and with either the counselor after whom the system was modeled (N = 20) or another counselor (N = 20). Subjects interacted with a time‐sharing computer using TWX input. The basic objective was to determine the similarity of outcomes between the system, model counselor, and second counselor. Criteria included similarity of pupil appraisal statements and course selections. The machine system agreed with both human counselors on approximately 75 per cent of the appraisal statements and about 65 per cent of the course selections. Practicum ratings of 50 school counselors were examined in relation to administrators' subsequent on‐the‐job ratings of their performance. The relationship proved negligible. The practicum ratings did relate, however, to retention of cognitive material in guidance and counseling (scores on a comprehensive examination). Such a relationship did not exist between scores on the same comprehensive examination and the administrators' ratings. It was suggested that cognitive standards for counselors are probably best established and maintained by training institutions. A group of 3,731 marines on whom age and educational status at enlistment were available were studied. At the end of two years of active duty, subjects were classed as Non‐success if they presented evidence of unsatisfactory adjustment to the Corps. All other subjects were classed as Success. The Success rates of different classes of subjects by educational grouping are shown. 摘要:
The need for utilizing unstructured play media in counseling with elementary school children is discussed. The suggestion is made that through play activities the child learns ways of operating in social situations, tests various roles, and expresses his frustrations and concerns. Limiting the child to verbal expression in counseling is seen as being as inappropriate as limiting an adult to the use of puppets. The elementary school counselor's use of play in counseling is designed to facilitate the expression and communication of the normal child rather than to provide data for analytical purposes. Responses to verbal and nonverbal clues, therefore, include reflection and summarization more often than interpretation. Advantages of unstructured over structured materials are discussed; illustrations show the need children feel for amorphous materials in communicating feelings.

摘要:
Some previous publications have indicated that the creative skills of chemists tend to decline once they are past their thirties or early forties. These conclusions have been based on such criteria of creativity as merit ratings, citations in the literature, etc. In the present study, patent records for all 89 professional men (mostly chemists and chemical engineers) in one division of a large industrial scientific organization were analyzed to determine whether creativity as measured by the production of patentable ideas tended to decrease with age, to increase, or to remain about the same. In the statistical treatment of data both longitudinal and cross‐sectional methods were used. All the results were consistent in revealing no decline in creative productivity with increase in age, and indicated instead a tendency for productivity to increase as chemists matur

摘要:
In order to test the adequacy of Holland's theory of vocational choice with reference to a broad segment of entering college students, a sample of the freshman class entering the Pennsylvania State University evaluated themselves in terms of the six personality styles of Holland's theory. Relationships between the personality styles and vocational choices were studied for groups of Decided, Tentative, and Undecided students. While several inversions in the data are evident, the data possess sufficient consistency to indicate that the personality identifications these students made in Holland's frame of reference were related to their initial vocational choices.

A group of 105 tenth‐grade high school students living in Turkey were studied to discover their attitudes toward their host nation and experiences while living away from the United States. It was hypothesized that neither the length of time a student resides in a country nor his sex would have an effect on either the number of experiences related to his host country or his attitude while living in a foreign country.
