摘要:
In the mid 1970^'s the Teaching Company Scheme was established with the aim to improve the problem solving techniques and other managerial qualities of British industry. The University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) quickly realised the potential of this scheme and is currently one of the few universities to operate five or more programmes simultaneously. This article goes on to describe how to establish and operate a Teaching Company programme highlighting the required interaction between industry and university and furthermore gives examples of Teaching Company programmes past and present.

摘要:
A series of surveys provide the basis for comments on the mathematical education of engineers in Australia. The respondents were graduates and employers. This paper summarises their views and contrasts undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The former tend to be traditional and structured. There is a need for more course work with the latter with more emphasis on mathematical modelling. Desirable professional attributes which should come from education with mathematics rather than mere training in mathematics are listed as they are seen in the milieu of the market place.
