摘要:
In this paper, the Queen's Anniversary Prize winning MEng degree programme in Systems Engineering and creative systems module at Loughborough University are described. The way that the creativity is encouraged, the use of systems understanding and the new model for design processes are explained. Some examples of projects and student work are given for support.

摘要:
The need for engineering design students to understand that creativity is an important part of their educational development and also for a sound basis for their future role in industry has been well established. This paper will discuss the foundations of engineering design within this context and highlight the problems confronting students who are required to make a creative input to a design problem and describe a view on how to implement ‘creativityrsquo; in teaching engineering design through the experiences learnt while undertaking an interdepartmental project. The motivation for this work has arisen from the need to improve a student's ability to think creatively and in the long term, to improve the design of future products. Experiences from teaching creativity within an interdepartmental project will be given.

摘要:
In the knowledge society, competence is the most important factor in competition on the global market. That means learning and learning methods now attract great attention in all branches of the industry, in addition to the learning institutions. This article reports on new initiatives taken to promote project-based learning by information and communication technology in pilot projects as well as in a large-scale project. The development is based on collaboration with the industry, universities and colleges in a global setting.

摘要:
The creation of modern civilization required a dual creativity. It required not only the creation of the artefacts but also the creation of the coordinated sensitivity and shared sense of responsibility to live and work together. It comes from what Weber called the Protestant work ethic, which McClelland called the achievement motive, led by what Maslow called inner-oriented people. The intertwining of technical and moral creative skills has its origins in the training of the masons who built the cathedrals, sees its tightest focus in the people known as Quakers, who were at the heart of the industrial revolution, and continues today in the art and profession of civil engineering.

摘要:
This paper addresses the changing role of engineers in industry and society with specific reference to the increasing environmental pressures on industry. Sustainable development, as discussed widely since the Brundtland Report in 1987, provides a broad framework for environmental activities in industry. The intended move—worldwide—towards sustainable development involves engineering in the key role of designing and managing ‘Clean Technology’, i.e. of technological systems which are less harmful, more efficient and socially as well as environmentally acceptable. The paper examines the extent to which professional engineers can work and achieve sustainable development within their professional roles and considers their roles and responsibilities involved in such a move. Special emphasis is given to the role of creativity, ethics and the demand for professionalism in the changing roles of engineers. The examination of the ethical and professional issues identified is used together with the observed changes in industrial systems and engineering roles to determine new educational needs of those engineers driving future developments in industry.

摘要:
This paper deals with developing engineering creativity outside university education. Three personal accounts are reported here as the main content of this paper. They describe how young people wanted to fulfil their visions of creating unique artefacts in a very wide sense, and what engineering skills they had to develop on their own to achieve their goals. Professional engineers have assisted them in their striving without really being able to offer them, at that time, ready-made solutions. In this sense, the personal goals of these three people surpassed the present engineering experiences and they posed as yet insoluble problems to the profession. The personal accounts of these three people are presented here, to be followed by some brief conclusions for engineering education.

摘要:
In recent years, the world of engineering education has been changing rapidly. Emerging communication technologies offer new means of distance education, the job market is getting narrower and increasingly competitive, and numerous stakeholders are concerned about the quality of education the students receive. To offer quality assurance to interested parties and the general public, engineering faculties in the US and Canada undergo accreditation processes, fostered by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, which are professional boards. However, some university-level institutions in Europe have turned to the ISO 9000 family of international standards as a framework for quality assurance. This paper provides an outline of these three quality assurance schemes, followed by a comparison of their common elements. It is argued that engineering faculties can establish meaningful ISO 9000 quality systems on the basis of, and integrated with, the accreditation schemes. Finally, recent European initiatives for quality assurance in engineering education are addressed.

摘要:
This study describes the situation of engineering colleges in Palestine (i.e. Palestinian Territories occupied by Israel since 1967). It presents data relating to the gradual progress of engineering education from 1980 to 1996, and discusses the main objectives (general and specific) set for engineering education at the time of its establishment. Factors that have affected engineering education during the last 16 years are also discussed. The study focuses on analyzing the main aspects that would clarify the reality of engineering education during the specified period. These aspects are the faculty members, curricula and syllabuses, students and admission policies, specializations and sponsorship, material capabilities, buildings and equipment, administration, institutional organization, funding and linkage to society. The study concludes by arriving at possible approaches for the development of engineering education in the future based on the anticipated changes and progress in the comprehensive national development.
