摘要:
In the framework of the development of a model for ‘Systematic Curriculum Alignment and Watch’ (SCAW) in high-technology disciplines, the need for reliable mapping of the technologist's professional profile has arisen. This paper deals with the issue of sampling members from various establishments (industry, services, etc.) to be interviewed for determining the occupational requirements from engineering-technology manpower at work. The distribution of engineers (26,815) and engineering technicians (30,865) in the various economic branches in Israel is presented and analysed, and a sampling procedure from this population is presented.

摘要:
A comparison is made between the teleological requirements of engineering research in both the industrial and academic environments. Several areas of concern are highlighted, including the broadening of research perspectives, greater structuring and guidance of (Ph.D.) programmes, and a more expansionist and efficient problem solving methodology. It is proposed that the quality of research cannot be taken in isolation to this framework. An eclectic epistemology is proposed in the form of General Systems Theory. A systemic methodology advances multidisciplinary research and creative autodidactic qualities, and the gearing of engineering students to the needs of industry. The fundamentals of the systems approach are briefly described.

Engineering laboratory instruction has reached a crisis level due to inadequate instructional resources and lack of challenge and initiative provided to the students in performing routine or predefined experiments. Realistic and challenging goals must be set so that the students can become able experimenters. This paper discusses the current problems in undergraduate engineering laboratory instruction, provides possible solution to the problems and describes the successful implementation of a new approach to instructing engineering laboratory.

The microcomputer age has come. The use of general purpose softwares in construction is essential for a higher degree of productivity from white collar workers as well as the project as a whole. This paper stresses the importance of providing tutorial packages for the construction industry in applying generic software in construction's daily activities. A systematic approach of writing tutorial packages for the construction industry is presented. Construction automation shall benefit from the vast supply of these tutorial packages.

摘要:
This paper investigates the continuing education needs and career path development of engineers in Saudi Arabia. A survey of practising engineers in the Kingdom teas conducted. This was supplemented by in-depth interviews with experts in industry. The paper focuses on three issues: (i) the changing job responsibilities as engineers move into management; (ii) the actual, recommended and required undergraduate preparation for engineers in management topics; and (iii) the specific topics in management of merest to engineers. It is recommended that universities and private/public organisations should join together in providing continuing education to the professional engineer. This is necessary for the engineer to fulfil both his technical and managerial responsibilities.

摘要:
CAE has enabled vibrational problems, which were regarded as intractable 20 years ago, to be solvable by students using computational support. The paper describes a problem set to final year undergraduates which concerns the torsional vibrational response of a three degrees of freedom system which is subjected simultaneously to three different arbitrarily varying torques. The solution involves the use of standard library routines for matrix multiplication and eigensolutions, a Runge-Kutta routine to solve a second order differential equation and general competence in writing software.

摘要:
The need for inclusion of process planning techniques in the engineering curriculum is discussed and some of the present barriers to its implementation reviewed. A process planning tool is described which utilises expert systems methods to impart planning expertise. The system displays many of the features associated with planning experts and is capable of handling a wide range of learning situations.
