摘要:
The Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) has introduced a new type of evaluation. Unlike traditional types of evaluation, this gives students an opportunity to exercise an on-going influence upon their own situation. For each subject that is evaluated, a co–ordinator, the lecturer and some of the students meet regularly to discuss the way the teaching is progressing. If necessary, other lecturers are present at these meetings. At the end of each semester, all the students in the class fill in a questionnaire. Once every semester, all the pedagogical co–ordinators meet and report to those responsible for academic teaching at NTH. This evaluation procedure was started in September 1986, and has been positively received by students and lecturers alike.

摘要:
Teaching, and especially higher engineering education, has to accept right now the challenge of new technologies. Consequently, schools are confronted with many questions which should be answered rapidly. What should its objectives be in this wide and fast-moving field? What are the means to reach them? How will the teachers acquire a training in sophisticated engineering? Which costly equipment will be needed and how to afford it? The objectives of our teaching are first to provide a high–quality tuition, open to the requirements of modern industry and mostly in step with it, if not ahead of it. Secondly, our future engineers should be familiar with new technologies without being too much involved in specialised topics. Basic principles and their universality should be stressed instead. Furthermore our ultimate purpose is to train leaders, for the benefit of either our own teachers or engineers kaving to take the lead in their firms as far as new technologies are concerned.

摘要:
The paper describes an analysis of the factors which relate to the establishment of staff development methods and examines how each affects the establishment of effective staff development policies. The paper illustrates and analyses a number of ways in which a department of engineering can formalize staff development programmes at minimum cost to the institution based on the policy developed within the School of Engineering at Glasgow. It discusses structured secondment to other educational establishments and to industrial companies as representing a major form of staff development for a department of engineering. The paper concludes that highly effective staff development programmes can be achieved at low cost to the institution by formal structuring of a range of activities which form the work of a department.

摘要:
The in-service degree course in Design and Technology at Loughborough University of Technology known as ISBA (In-service B.A.) was designed 5 years ago to meet two main needs. First, there were teachers who wished to undertake a full–time retraining course to update their knowledge and skills for the teaching of Technology in secondary schools (11-18 age group). Secondly, most teachers of Craft, Design and Technology who were trained prior to about 1970 followed a 3-year certificate course in Handicraft. Many of these teachers now wish to obtain a first degree as well as updating in order to enhance their promotion prospects. This paper looks at the design of the course with particular reference to the technological content and some of the reactions from the teachers who have attended it.

摘要:
The Curriculum Working Group of SEFI has recognised a need for more comprehensive presentations on European engineering education systems in their group meetings. At the same time they should also be made available in SEFI publications. This article is intended to be such a contribution. It describes in detail Swiss engineering education and also shows therein the role of public enterprise, society, industry and the engineering profession. It also refers to the international context and finally touches some current educational issues. Since many characteristics of the present system can be more easily understood by looking into the past, a short history of the Swiss engineering education is appended

摘要:
After a general comment on the observation that continuing education is offered mainly in management and engineering areas, attention will be focused on engineering continuing education (ECE)programmes at university level: ECE specificity compared to management continuing education; hotu to structure ECE provision; which kind of pedagogical methods and content.

摘要:
In 1974–75 at the K.U.Leuven Project Work as Practicals was started in the first-cycle engineering curriculum aiming at (1) the integration of separate teaching items and 7lpar;2) the integration of theoretical and practical or numerical aspects of those items. After 4 years the evaluation of it was more than satisfactory. The teaching team of the Chemistry course has integrated this system of practicals into their normal chemistry practicals. In this way more students 7lpar;currently only 20%) would be able to profit from the new education curriculum, now called ‘Long-term Practicals’. About 20%of the sophomore student volunteers are working for about 15 hours spread over 5 weeks at a mini-research subject in close contact with the members of the teaching team, using the instruments of the Chemistry Division, reading the literature, writing a report after the practical work, with discussion and evaluation of the work with their team-leader. To make it possible that all the sophomore students (400 students in 1987)could profit from this new education system, the physics, mechanics, mathematics, etc. practicals have to adapt to the same integrated practical system.
