摘要:
This paper describes the way in which the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Sonora in Mexico is facing the challenge posed by sustainable development. In order to integrate the principles of Agenda 21, the Group of Sustainable Development has designed an educational model called ‘sustainable cell’. This educational model is based on a proactive conscience towards ecological and social problems, which could ensure in the future a responsible participation of these professionals at their workplaces, by the application of the universal values: to develop better processes and products that would cause a lower impact on nature, and transmit these ideas to their employees, co-workers and superiors. Even though the sustainable cell was designed to be applied in higher education, it is feasible for application at any level of education.

An approach aimed at enhancing learning by matching individual students' preferred cognitive styles to computer-based instructional (CBI) material is presented. This approach was used in teaching some components of a third-year unit in an electrical engineering course at the Queensland University of Technology. Cognitive style characteristics of perceiving and processing information were considered. The bimodal nature of cognitive styles (analytic/imager, analytic/verbalizer, wholist/imager and wholist/verbalizer) was examined in order to assess the full ramification of cognitive styles on learning. In a quasi-experimental format, students' cognitive styles were analysed by cognitive style analysis (CSA) software. On the basis of the CSA results the system defaulted students to either matched or mismatched CBI material. The consistently better performance by the matched group suggests potential for further investigations where the limitations cited in this paper are eliminated. Analysing the differences between cognitive styles on individual test tasks also suggests that certain test tasks may better suit certain cognitive styles.

摘要:
Maintaining the vitality of human resources is as important as maintaining the level of capital equipment. In this paper a model for the continuing education of industrial professionals in the field of control technology in Slovenia is presented. The main idea concerns a programme of courses that serve to disseminate knowledge through active learning. The programme was launched by means of a Tempus project. The main achievement is the cluster of eight courses that already runs on a regular basis. The first experiences, resulting from positive initial response from industry, are summarized and some of the problems and perspectives are outlined.

摘要:
The implementation of a new professional Master's degree is described. The multi-disciplinary and specialized nature of the degree has led to the development of a wide network through the participating universities and a unique partnership with industry. Professional practitioners not only helped to devise the course but also make a major ongoing contribution to its delivery, and most students are employed in the industry. The outcome is a successful world-class course, achieved without the usual support base of undergraduate teaching.

摘要:
This paper presents an overview of the origin of the industrial engineering discipline and the subjects taught in the early stages of its development. It describes in detail the current changes in the curricula to meet new requirements of the ever-changing industry demands due to the intense competition for the development of new products at the highest possible quality and the least cost. The changes have been reflected in many industrial engineering programmes. Indeed, in some cases the changes have also been reflected by a title change of the programme. The role of the accreditation committees and the Institute of Industrial Engineers, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, and its publications in shaping undergraduate education is also discussed.

摘要:
Using computers in reliability analysis allows one to apply more complex and therefore more relevant models. Training professionals also require use of complex and sophisticated techniques. The software developed for practical use differs from that developed for education in many important aspects. In this paper, the experience of how software developed for practical reliability data analysis evolves as a training tool for a special continuous-type education and the influence of specially designed educational properties on the further development of the systems are shared.

摘要:
It is well known that the gap between academic research and industrial practice is particularly large in the field of statistical quality control, representing one special branch of the science stochastics. This paper introduces an intelligent medium, which is developed, aiming at fitting the gap by means of modern information technologies. The medium or system, as it is called in the remainder, can be used for training purposes in the engineering sciences as well as for solving problems in industrial practice. The system is hierarchically ordered, where each hierarchy consists of modules allowing an easy extension of the system. Thus, it is possible to have it always represent the latest state of the art.
