摘要:
This paper presents the results of two different investigations about the attitudes and opinions of the Finnish schoolchildren towards technology and engineering. One investigation was made with a written questionnaire answered by 2000 gymnasium students in age group 16–19 years; the other is a content analysis of the 707 writings in a national technology competition 1988. The writers were in the age group 13–19 years. These investigations were made to get information for recruiting students into engineering. Special emphasis was paid to find the difference between boys and girls.

摘要:
The Nordic BRYT-project was intended to develop various ways and means to broaden the understanding of the choices available in education for women, especially in those fields where female students are in the minority, such as engineering and industrial vocational education. The article describes the experiments with students and teachers in the schools of a Finnish town, Vammala. The conclusions drawn from opinions resenting these experiments are especially informative and illuminating.

摘要:
A brief account is given of a recently established procedure of admitting students without advanced high school courses in physics and mathematics to the Tampere Universiry of Technology. As background there has been a need to broaden the recruiting basis for engineering education. This has also meant admitting a much greater proportion of female engineering students than usual. These students have partly different qualities compared to those admitted through the normal tests. However, despite this, there is no intention of changing the curriculum or the level of engineering education in the technical universities. So there must be methods of training the newly entering students and give them the same knowledge as traditional recruits.

摘要:
This article discusses the possibility that changing the arrangement of computer courses, from being associated with technical and mathematical subjects to becoming broader courses based on social subjects and arts as well, would lead to an increase in the proportion of women studying and working in this field. It is also shown that most likely a change in this direction would effect the type of technology that is developed, provided that the methods of work are developed to integrate technical subjects into a whole and involve the users in an equal co-operation. This will make technology more user-friendly and better suited to the needs of the organisation.

摘要:
In Italy as in other European countries, the percentage of women who graduated with a degree in engineering is still very low. However, in past years, matriculation of women in engineering has been increasing, although the trend is still lower than in other departments, where an overall average of 50% increase is projected.

摘要:
The writer, a young Finnish female scientist, has been working in Japan as a researcher since Nmember 1988 and has experienced and learned the Japanese way of life and work. In this article the general features of Japanese society are outlined and the traditions which still bind Japanese women are elaborated. In theory the field of engineering is open to women but the.weighr of societal customs and values makes it rather demanding for any woman to try to make a career in any technical field.

摘要:
This paper presents a method for assessing the three major objectives in the teaching of vocational and technical courses. These objectives are identified as material assimilation, application to real practical problems and resourcefulness of the student. The method was developed and tested over a period of more than 10 years on the Applied Electricity course, taught to first year engineering students at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Analysis show that with the three-part-question method of examination the distribution of student scores is normal and the information deduced can be useful to both lecturer and student.
