摘要:
The need for humanities in technical curricula can be explained in part by the impact technology has on our society. Engineers are the class of people who contribute most, and most directly to the changing face of the earth. So they should have at least an idea of the context they are working in. Humanities, on the other hand, have been on the loosing side since World War II. This calls for some reconsideration. The ever more urgent call for languages, management and law competencies for engineers is an expression for this. Humanities can and must play an important role in every well-balanced engineering curriculum.

摘要:
T396, Artificial Intelligence for Technology; is a distance learning course provided by the Open University of the UK. It is based around a learning model which combines conceptualization, construction and dialogue. This allows a practical emphasis which has previously been difficult to implement within the constraints of distance education. The course uses commercial software, real-world based assignments and a project to replace the conventional exam. The course components facilitate the successful combination of the practical emphasis and the academic theory. A computer conference allows dialogue between students. The course has been evaluated by student questionnaire and for the key criteria received responses in the top quarter of the ratings band.

摘要:
In the present paper, we describe the TEA system, a multimedia instructor system for distance learning of agrarian economics. TEA is based on the last 3 years of the courses held in the Spanish School for Agrarian Foremen. This tutorial system follows the hypertext philosophy ( in the widest sense, including textual and hypermedia information), which has been widely used in the educational field. In the development of TEA, we have tried to overcome the classical problems of hypertext education ( disorientation during navigation, cognitive overload, etc. ) using graphical and textual ‘;clues’ to improve user orientation. Internet is a new medium with great potential in the educational field. Perhaps the main benefit of Internet is the possibility of making learning material available to people all over the world. Within Internet, World Wide Web ( WWW) is the most natural solution for remote access to multimedia distance learning services. The system was developed on WWW, using the Netscape User Interface, Hypertext Mark-up Language and some external Common Gateway Interface programs.

摘要:
All assessment practices reflect a number of assumptions relating to the nature of learning and the purpose of assessment. If educational institutions intend to equip graduates with attributes necessary for professional practice, for example critical thinking and lifelong learning capabilities, then current assessment pratices must be examined. Teaching, learning and assessment are inextricably linked and assessment is the most significant motivator for learning. A number of innovative approaches to assessment have been implemented at Queensland Unviersity of Technology. This paper describes initiatives such as project-based learning, student-generated examinations, peer assessment and multiple-choice questions.

摘要:
Part-time vocational engineering curricula provide a response to a number of present-day demands related to economic developments. Their aim is to transform experienced higher technicians into engineering managers through a combination of knowledge derived from past experience in working positions and in new situations, with courses and activities in an academic institution. Synergy between the two streams can be achieved by specific means such as dual tutoring by the academic institution and the company, training in the capacity of synthesis regarding technological developments in progress, observation and analysis by the learner of his/her own work station, field research on team management and the writing of a final professional dissertation in the company.

摘要:
The purpose of this study is to analyze the kind of motivation in academia at a university in Argentina, taken as an example of a Latin American country. The study used a questionnaire containing the same 37 attitudinal statements that At-Twaijri et al. used recently for a large university in the Arabian Gulf. Motivators in both universities are compared. Despite being two very different academic cultures, there are analogies between the responses of lecturers: financial rewards are the least motivator in both cases; the most important items affecting the university professors’ motivation deal with the internal reward along with a feeling of accomplishment in the Argentine, and self-achievement and social respect in the Arabian Gulf. This paper also serves to make the international academic community aware of the Spanish ‘Intercampus’ programme. This programme allows the interchange of a significant number of students and professors between universities of Spain and the Latin American community.

摘要:
Three hypotheses are formulated: ( 1) the shorter the product life cycle is for products, the more has to be invested in the education of associates; ( 2) the more money that is invested in RϵD, the more has also to be invested in the associates’ education ( not only Rϵ;D associates) ( 3) the shorter the product life cycle is, the closer should be the contacts with universities. The three hypotheses have been proven valid according to findings from companies producing products in the three industrial fields of handicap aids, automobiles and telecommunications technology.

摘要:
Developing analytical and organizational skills to handle real-life decision problems is an explicit objective of the postgraduate programme in Industrial Management at KU Leuven. Because the final test is in eating the cake, a system of field research for the Master's thesis project was developed. In recent years, this project activity has been reshaped according to our total quality management policy, leading to a professional approach of selecting, conducting and evaluating these projects. This paper elaborates on this experience and describes the added value to the pedagogical process.
