摘要:
Neurasthenia and premenstrual syndrome became medical diseases because of the historical recognition of menstruation as a medical disease. Both the nineteenth and twentieth century cultural views of women were important in the establishment of menstruation, neurasthenia and premenstrual syndrome as medical conditions. Uncertainty of diagnosis with ever expanding diagnostic criteria, therapy undertaken without an adequate physiological basis, and often adverse effects from therapy, were characteristic of the medicalization of neurasthenia and premenstrual syndrome. A recognition of the cultural basis of these conditions is essential to a better understanding of women as human beings.

摘要:
The present investigation explored the predictability of psychological distress from perceived work and nonwork stress and dissatisfaction for a sample of 108 female clerical workers. A stepwise multiple regression was performed on the data, and it was found that nonwork variables contributed more to perceived psychological distress than did work variables. Implications of this research as related to gender and organizational concerns are discussed.

摘要:
A variety of soaps, detergents, germicides, and protective gloves are available for use by health care workers. Appropriate hand-washing and glove use will reduce the possibility of spread of infectious organisms from patient to staff, from patient to patient, and from staff to patient. Both hand-washing and glove use can have adverse effects. Excessive hand-washing, mechanical irritation from scrubbing, use of germicides, and wearing of gloves can result in irritant and allergic dermatitis. Dermatitis will result in an increased risk of infection to both the worker and the patient.

摘要:
Disabled women experience greater handicaps than disabled men do. A survey of 907 students in six allied health professions indicated that the majority lacked knowledge of 13 sex differences in frequency of occurrence of physical disabilities and handicaps. Female students revealed greater unawareness. Students who recognized sex differences in frequency of disabilities were more likely to correctly identify predominantly male disabilities but tended to incorrectly attribute predominantly female disabilities to men. This trend was stronger among male subjects. Beliefs regarding sex differences in handicaps suggest that disabled men are perceived as coping more effectively with disability. Results are a matter of concern given that health practitioners' knowledge and expectations influence rehabilitation outcomes.

摘要:
This study shows differences between males and females in metabolic control of diabetes mellitus. The 30 subjects studied (15 men and 15 women) were type II diabetics, peasants, ages 40-62, all residents of Cihuatlan, Jalisco, Mexico. Fifty percent (50%) of the diabetics were found to have poor control (as defined by elevated fasting blood sugar levels). The percentage varied greatly according to sex: 86.6% of the females have poor control compared to 13.3% of the males. Compliance or non-compliance to a prescribed diet was found to be related to whether or not members of the family participate in the preparation of diet and support the diabetic subject in following the therapeutic plan. One hundred percent of the males have their food prepared specially for them by a family member while only 13% of the females receive this type of support.
