The current status of women in medicine in these four countries is second-class compared to men in that s smallcr percentage of women are specialists or hold highly regarded positions within the profession. Some medical educators are concerned about the rcccnt dramatic increase in percentage of medical students who are women since studies have shown that women doctors practice fewer hours per week than men doctors. Howcvcr, recent social and economic trends in these coun- tries suggest that today's medical students will havc dilferent kinds of careers than past graduates, resulting in similar medical careers for future men and womcn doctors

This study investigated the amount of information that mothers have about the drugs to which they are exposed during pregnancy and childbinh as well as the correlates of this information, in particular perceived and actual control over life and health-related events. Subjects werc 304 randomly chosen inpatients interviewed within 48 hours after childbirth. The results show that mothers know very little about the medications they took prenatally and even less about the medications they were administercd during labor and delivery. Failing adequate information, a large number of mothers and babies were exposed to drugs with terdtogenic or toxic potenlial. With but one exception, these drugs had not been approved by the F.D.A. for use in pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Scores on the Rorter Locus of Control Scale reliably predicted prenatal drug information.

摘要:

From a general medical clinic five women with asbestosis are reported, illustrating a delay in the diagnosis and a general absence of lung cancer. The delay in diagnosis i s attributed to failure to elicit work histories andlor exposures in women presenting in later years as housewives. The infrcquent lung cancer is attributed to less cigarette smoking by women workers compared to men.

摘要:

This paper reviews the multifaceted problem of fatigue prevention and treatment in women. Three categories of fatigue are defined and the contribution of women's status to thc onsct and continuation of fatigue symptonls is discussed. A multimodal treatment strategy for depression is adapted to provide clues for sclf- treatment and prevention strategies for chrunic fatigue.
