摘要:
This paper reviews the current research on fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which is a syndrome of malformation, growth dcficiency and mental retardation found in some offspring of alcoholic mothers. Although alcohol has been suspected as a teratogenic agent for many centuries, the first English-language report on eight definitive cases occurred in 1973. Since then hundreds of cases have been reported from many countries and alcohol is now recognized as an important cause of birth defects. Because research in this area has been so explosive in the past five years, reviews of recent published and unpublished work arc necessary in order to transmit information on this preventable form of birth defect to health care professionals, to families, and to women themselves.

摘要:
In October of 1977 an article entitled "Birthplace Alternatives" appeared in the Oregon State Health Bulletin. This article presented a narrative based on facts taken from the data on birth certificates of all births occurring outside of a hospital in the State of Oregon in 1976. Tabulations were compiled to show where the infants were being born, who was delivering them, the educational level of the parents, and the prenatal care given. Insofar as was possible-from complications listed on the birth certificates, information from matched infant death reports, and full term fetal death reports-the outcome of these deliveries was explored. Due to the tremendous response to that article, this update of 1977 data on out-of-hospital births was prepared.

摘要:
l'his longitudinal study was conducted by the same researchers 4 to 6 years following their initial contact with a sample of rape victims. The study analyzes whether victims told parental family members of the rape at the time of the rape, and of their reasons for or for not telling. The majority of the 81 rape victims told selective parental family members (42%). 33% told all family members, and 25% told no family member, Victims were found to have had specific reasons for disclosing(wanted to tell, expected to tell, presured to tell, and uncontrolled telling). as well as reasons for not telling (protecting the family from upsetting news, value conflict with family, maintaining independence, psychologically distant from family, and geographically distant from family). A major recommendation for rape counseling is to help the victim predict family reaction to disclosure of the news as part of the decision on whether to tell family.
