摘要:
Attempts to downplay the sexual component of sexual assault may actually result in an injustice to sexual assault survivors as it may desensitize professionals working with sexual assault survivors to the possible development of sexual problems. Of 371 sexual assault survivors evaluated, more than 40% reported that they were experiencing sexual problems as a result of their assaults. In addition, these assault-related sexual problems can be chronic, enduring for many years. The need to screen for and provide treatment when necessary for such sexual problems is apparent.

摘要:
This study investigated employment status, desire to return to work, and health outlook among 148 women and 184 men with major disabling health conditions. Disabled women's need for job retraining and the importance of improved employer education about disability were recurrent themes during the interviews. No significant differences were found in women's and men's return to work or in desire for job retraining following disability onset. Perceived health status was significantly higher among employed women than among non-employed women, and the data suggest that employment contributes to improved health outlook among disabled women.

摘要:
In North America, many taboos and myths related to menstruating women have been officially discredited. Unfortunately however, menstruation continues to be imbued with complex, largely negative meanings. This paper examines how menstrual shame and embarrassment are perpetuated through common folk wisdom, educational methods, and commercial advertising. A discussion of female socialization illustrates how girls arrive at puberty with attitudes that reflect largely negative cultural stereotypes. Implications and directions for education and research which are intended to counterbalance the prevalent menstrual ideology are presented.

摘要:
The last decade witnessed a movement toward out-of-hospital binh. Licensed free standing birth centers (FSBCs) proliferated and, by 1984, over 100 were operating in the U.S. This paper details the history of The Birth Place in Menlo Park, CA. Over a three year period, 251 women in labor were admitted to the clinic. Of these women, 200 (80%) completed delivery at the center. Of these, four mothers and three babies transferred to the, hospital postpartum for treatment. Fifty-one women (20%) transferred to the hospital intrapartum primarily as a result of prolonged or arrested labor. There were 11 forceps deliveries (4%) and six cesarean sections (2%). Of 51 babies born at the hospital, nine had complications requiring treatment. Overall, clients expressed a strong sense of satisfaction regarding their birth experience. The FSBC, with its alternative philosophy, serves as an important experiment testing out-of- hospital birth outcomes in a carefully screened low risk population.

摘要:
Since women are an increasing proportion of the older population, the health issues that affect older Americans must be regarded in large part as women's issues. Women experience aging differently from men. The advantage in life expectancy of. women over men is not always a boon. Older women have substantially lower incomes and higher poverty rates, are more likely to be widowed and living alone, and depend more on entitlement and social service programs. This paper traces the evolution of the women's movement and identifies some of the health care problems of older women in terms of psychological, socio-cultural, and economic factors. The role of the medical establishment and federal regulations that affect older women are examined. The White House Conference on Aging (1981) is seen as a prelude to the current policies of the Administration that affect older women. Necessary policy changes on the Federal and local levels are discussed as well as the need for redirection in the women's health movement.
