摘要:
The most common oral manifestation of elevated levels of ovarian hormones, as seen in pregnancy or oral contraceptive usage, is an increase in gingival inflammation with an accompanying increase in gingival exudate. This gingivitis can be avoided or at least minimized by establishing low plaque levels at the beginning of pregnancy or the beginning of oral contraceptive therapy. It would appear that bacteria are not solely responsible for the gingivitis seen during these times, nor are the ovarian hormones solely responsible for the condition. Data from numerous studies suggest that the ovarian hormones alter the microenvironment of the oral bacteria so as to promote their growth and shifts in their populations. The present article reviews the current state of knowledge concerning the relationship of gingivitis to elevated levels of ovarian hormones, and describes the role that these hormones may play in the gingivitis associated with pregnancy or oral contraceptive usage.

摘要:
This study examines the impact of three major classes of factors, triggers, impediments, and demographics, on the use of four different communication channels: doctors, friends family, organizations, and media. A sample of women over forty (n = 209) who had a mammography were asked which channels they had turned to within the last year for cancer-related information. The most important variable in the significant discriminant functions was the degree of interpersonal influence within one's social network. These results are discussed in terms of their theoretic and pragmatic implications for the development of communication campaigns related to mammography screening.

摘要:
Obese women are at higher risk for the development of both endometrial and ovarian carcinoma. Biochemical mechanisms reoresent documented causal factors but the role of psycho-social attitides has received limited attention. This study examined the difference in the freauency of pelvic screening examinations between obese and non-obese women and the effect of physician and patient attitudes toward obesity on examination frequency. A total of 291 women subjects and 1316 physician subjects participated in this study. Data reported in this paper suggest that attitudes and behaviors are negatively influenced by weight. As subjects' weight went up, negative opinions about their appearance and reluctance to obtain oelvic examinations also increased while the likelihood of having annual pelvic examinations decreased. A substantial minority (17%) and an overwhelming majority (83%) of physicians indicated they were reluctant to preform peliic examinations on obese and reluctant patients respectively. If physicians are more reluctant to perform pelvic examinations on obese and reluctant women and obese women are more reluctant to be examined, there may be a critical delay in detecting adenocarcinomas of the female genital tract.

摘要:
Using a combined qualitative-quantitative methodology, a convenience sample of 503 women revealed that the most prevalent problems lesbian women encountered for which they did and did not seek traditional health care were menstrual, sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive, bladder or kidney, and breast problems. Reasons for not seeking health care were deduced, as was the manner in which the women participated in their health care, their feelings regarding health care, and how they would like to see health care changed.
