Abstractthe navigation systemsfor the Mach 3 transport need not be as sophisticated as many engineers and operators may have, anticipated. Equipment now under development for advanced manned aircraft and aerospace vehicles have characteristics exceeding the navigation system requirements anticipated for the supersonic transport aircraft. The systems tentatively selected to perform the navigation tasks adequately can be developed from existing technology. The final selection of specific airborne navigation equipment will depend on the actual 1970 air traffic control procedures and characteristics of the ground‐based aids.
