ABSTRACTFrom the early stages of bubble sextant development, the bubble, or artificial horizon, was recognized as one of the most important assemblies in the sextant, and one of the most difficult to manufacture to the high standards desired. Navigators soon learned by operational experience the need for temperature compensation of the bubble; that is, a device for maintaining a uniform bubble size, regardless of temperature changes.
