摘要:
Proposals for capital sharing (i.e. the spreading of ownership rights to productive assets), also known as ‘economic democracy’, have been advanced by the trade unions in both Denmark and Sweden. In view of their redistributive intent, these schemes have met surprisingly little enthusiastic response in traditional labor constituencies. The article makes an attempt to explainwhy. An examination of wage earner attitudes (which goes into greater detail for Denmark) shows that the presently entertained proposals appeal in a cross‐cutting manner to conflictual notions of class power and participatory opportunity. The result is a fragmentation of wage earner su

摘要:
This study is a comparative survey analysis of similarities and differences in the Scandinavian party systems. These are all dominated by three big class parties, Social Democrat, Agrarian, Conservative, each representing mainly one occupational group. The study investigates the electoral basis of each type of class party in order to explain class voting, and it finds a similar pattern of social factors which influence class voting. The article also considers the differences between the Scandinavian party systems, the psychological variables influencing class voting, a possible decline in class voting, and the distinctiveness of the Scandinavian party systems compared to other types of party systems.

摘要:
This paper explores organizational issues raised via a comparison of the Bravo oil blowout in the North Sea and the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Pennsylvania. The organizations involved, their interconnections and interests in each accident are compared. Six actor types are used as a classification system for framing the comparison. The underlying issues bearing on allocation of effort to pre‐accident planning are also noted. Finally, a framework from this effort is used for guiding the planning of operations for future accident

摘要:
It has been argued that the credibility of the American nuclear deterrent is declining in Western Europe. Whether this is true or not, it seems clear that support for the NATO alliance had reached a remarkably low level among Western European political elites as the 1970s drew to a close. One possible alternative to continued reliance on the Atlantic Alliance would be for Western Europe to develop its own independent defence capabilities. Certainly, in terms of economic and technological resources, this option should be within reach of an integrated European Community. And indeed there seems to be widespread support among European political leaders for the principle of having Western Europe play a more independent role vis‐à‐vis both superpowers. But there is no clear consensus in favour of the increased defence expenditures that such a policy would entail. Nor is there a consensus in favour of developing a unified West European security system inside or outside the institutional framework of the European Community. Our evidence in support of these conclusions is based on interviews carried out with candidates for the European Parliament in all nine member countries during the months immediately preceding the first direct elections in June,
