摘要:
A new field of application for power engineering lies in the electrical protection of bathing beaches against sharks, at luxury tourist resorts. This article reviews traditional methods of protection from shark attack, then discusses the reaction of fish and sharks to pulsed electric fields. An experimental system has been installed at a bathing resort, with promising results

摘要:
This article is based on the 28th Annual Lecture of the IEE Power Division which was given by the authors in March 1990. It traces the history of a major co-operative research and development project involving a team of engineers from the industrial and academic worlds. It began in 1978 and has also involved the CEGB, Hydro-Quebec, Bonneville Power Administration and Hong Kong Electric. The space available permits no more than a flavour of the overall activity to be given, but more detail is available in an extensive and detailed review commissioned by the IEE.1

摘要:
In Part 1 (January 1991) the dependence of modern civilisation on electricity, as evidenced by the 1965 New York blackout, was established and the inherent stability of the synchronous generator considered. Part 2 looks in more detail at the generator and its controls, and introduces the equal-area criterion
