摘要:
The last 75 years have seen tremendous changes take place in the public supply of electricity in the UK. This article describes some of the major events which, some might argue, have delayed the introduction of a properly-developed electricity supply infrastructure. Much of the discussion which follows relates to ownership and control in the early days—some of which is just as relevant today. The oft-cited saying that ‘their is nothing new under the sun’ is shown to apply to UK electricity supply just as it does to many other aspects of life. Observations on the politics involved and their influence on the engineering aspects of the industry are made also.

摘要:
‘Electromagnetic compatibility’ or EMC means the ability of a device, unit of equipment, or system to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbances to anything in that environment. To be able to do this an electrical apparatus must have a certain level of immunity to electromagnetic disturbance and must not produce emissions above an acceptable level.

摘要:
This article discusses the way in which different design techniques are used to satisfy railway operators' requirements for static auxiliary supplies. It describes two specific examples and then goes on to consider some of the future developments in this field.
