AbstractPseudohaplocaulus infravacuolatusnov. spec. andVorticella chlorellataStiller, 1940. two peritrich ciliates attached to planktonic coenobia ofAnabaenasp. (Cyanophyta). were investigated using live observation, silver impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy.Pseudohaplocaulus infravacuolatusdiffers from its nearest relative,P. anabaenae(Stiller, 1940). mainly by the location of the anterior contractile vacuole.Vorticella chlorellatahas symbiotic green algae. a J‐shaped macronucleus. and a single, ventral contractile vacuole. The number of silverlines is very close to that ofV. picta, but distinctly different from that ofV. chlorostigma(Ehrenberg, 1931), an other greenVorticella, redescribed for the first time.Vorticella rhabdostyloidesKellicott, 1885 is recognized as a distinct species, but transferred toHaplocaulus: H. rhabdostyloides(Kellicott, 1885) nov. comb. Likewise,Vorticella fasciculutaMüller, 1773 is considered a distinct species and transferred toPseudovorticella: P.fasciculata(Müller, 1773) nov. c

AbstractA soil sample out of a dried rockpool (lithotelma) on a dolomit hill in the Etosha National Park, Namibia, was investigated for possible occurence of rotifers. Besides a numerous and rich microfaunae, e.g. Zooflagellata, Rhizopoda. Acari, Nematoda, Tardigrada and Copepoda, 24 rotifers were found. AbstractThis fourth paper in a series on the effects of the wet‐and‐dry climate on the northern Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Brazil, provides an outline of the seasonal activity of sarcodine and ciliate species. Both of these groups of protozoans include grazers on bacteria and algae, predators, and omnivores. Apparently because of their more complex trophic relationships and competition from small metazoans, the fauna of these groups in the Pantanal is considerably less rich in species than the alga flora, and the populations of most species remain small throughout the year. The presence of only 97 species was recorded during a period of study lasting about three and a half years. While the number of testacean species encountered is not notably less than expected, the number and diversity of the ciliate fauna are remarkably low compared to those encountered not only in the eutrophic waters of the temperate zones but also in water bodies in the eastern part of Brazil. 摘要:
AbstractThe environmental conditions for submerged macrophytes in sewage channels are different to those of natural waters. Mainly 6 eutraphent species occur in two communities on the flowing stretch of the Berlin treated sewage channel Wuhle. The survival time of the above ground biomass of the annual species is relatively long due to the higher water temperatures in winter. The average biomass of the different parts of the flowing stretch is between 50 and 830 g DM/m2in summer. With decreasing concentrations of ammonia and BOD an increase of the biomass and the colonization density could be noticed over the last few years.

AbstractTwo pairs of springs were surveyed in the floodplain of the Upper Rhône River. Each pair included a karstic (upstream) and an alluvial (downstream) spring in the same catchment. Various physical, chemical, and biological factors were measured in the water and the sediment. The study showed karstic and alluvial spring typology. In each pair, the karstic springs were characterized by higher alkalinity, whereas alluvial springs were fed both by karstic groundwater and Rhône River water with higher sulphate content.Organic matter dynamics and retention processes were different in each spring. The distribution and abundance of fine sediment played a prominent role in the storage of particulate organic carbon and the development of microbial biomass and activity. The hydrological cycle governed organic and inorganic nutrient fluxes, and was, with temperature, the main factor influencing microbial and macroinvertebrate dynamics. AbstractThe aquatic mycoflora and environmental factors in 20 springs were analysed at monthly intervals for one year. At total of 102 Hyphomycete species was noted. 16 species are new records for Poland. The highest number of species was found in spring and autumn. the lowest number in winter.
