摘要:
The relative sensitivity of radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging for detecting palmar process fractures of the distal phalanx in foals was determined and the imaging findings were compared with histomorphologic evaluations of the palmar processes. Compared to radiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging did not improve the sensitivity for detection of palmar process fractures. Statistical agreement for palmar process fracture diagnosis was excellent among the three imaging modalities. Histomorphologic evaluations were more sensitive for diagnosis of palmar process fracture than any of the imaging modalities. Three‐dimensional image reconstructions and volume measurements of distal phalanges and palmar process fracture fragments from computed tomography studies provided more complete anatomical information than radiography. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed that the deep digital flexor tendon insertion on the distal phalanx is immediately axial to the site where palmar process fractures occur, and differentiated cartilage, bone, and soft tissue structures of the hoo

摘要:
Radiographs of 72 femoropatellar and femorotibial joints from 50 horses were evaluated. Ninety four arthroscopically evaluated areas were graded according to a predetermined system. The radiographic grade was then compared to arthroscopic findings in the same location. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the association between the radiographic subchondral bone changes and arthroscopic findings. Radiographically normal areas in the femoropatellar joint were arthroscopically positive for cartilaginous changes in 40% of the femoropatellar joints. Areas of mild subchondral bone flattening (grade I) in the lateral trochlear ridge were arthroscopically positive for cartilage changes 78% of the time. Ninety six percent of moderate to severe subchondral bone changes (grades II‐V) were arthroscopically positive for cartilage damage. This research demonstrates that (1) a significant number of radiographically normal joints will have cartilage changes, (2) areas of mild subchondral bone flattening have cartilage changes present in the majority of cases and (3) areas of moderate to severe subchondral bone changes have arthroscopically detectable cartilage changes presen

摘要:
The relative quality and speed of a new ultraviolet‐emitting screen, ultraviolet‐sensitive film rare‐earth system (DuPont Ultra‐Vision®) was compared to an orthochromatic rare‐earth system (Kodak Lanex®) in a clinical trial. Seven different sets of radiographs of a human foot phantom, or actual canine anatomical structures (tarsus, pelvis, skull, chest, abdomen) were evaluated independently by radiologists, radiology residents and technicians who were unaware of the screen/film combinations used. The 400‐speed, Ultra‐Vision® Rapid/UVG screen/film combination produced supervisor image detail compared to blue/green emitting 400 and 200‐speed screen/film combinations. The image detail of the Ultra‐Vision® Rapid/UVG system was nearly equivalent to that produced using a 100‐speed, fine‐detail blue/green emitting screen/film combination. A 200‐speed Ultra‐Vision® system was also tested and produced thoracic and abdominal radiographs of equivalent to slightly supervisor quality than those produced us

摘要:
The clinical and imaging features of twelve dogs with vacuum phenomena are reviewed. Gas accumulations were identified as radiolucent areas within the intervertebral discs of the cervical, thoracic, and lumber spine, the joint spaces in the sternum, and the shoulder joint. The intervertebral and sternal gas accumulations were associated with other radiographic features of degeneration such as endplate sclerosis and spondylosis. Gas attributable to vacuum phenomenon has not been previously described in the sternum of animals. Abnormal radiographic positioning stresses or instability were through to be responsible for the focal gas accumulations.

摘要:
A retrospective study was undertaken to quantify thoracic radiographic changes in cats with heartworm diseases, (Dirofilaria immitis). Using a blinded study format, the cardiac silhouette, thoracic cavity and pulmonary arteries were measured from thoracic radiographs of 21 cats with feline heartworm disease and 30 cats without known cardiac or pulmonary vessel pathology. Measured data were normalized to the thoracic cavity or bony structures within the radiographic field of view. The measurements were compared between the two groups of cats using an unpaired, two‐tailed Student'st‐test, with a p value of<0.05 being considered significant. Cats with feline heartworm disease had enlargement of the craniocaudal aspect of the cardiac silhouette and normalized cardiac:thoracic ratio (p<0.05) on the lateral view. Also, there was significant enlargement of the central and peripheral caudal lobar pulmonary arteries and their normalized ratios (p<0.05) in the heartworm infected cats as visualized on the ventrodorsal projection. Tortuosity of the pulmonary arteries was seen in three of the 21 infected cats. Eleven of the 21 cats with feline heartworm disease had pulmonary parenchymal changes. Based on the present study, central and peripheral pulmonary artery enlargement as viewed on the ventrodorsal radiograph was the single best radiographic indicator of feline heartworm dise

摘要:
The herniation of intervertebral disc material into the vertebral body, known as Schmorl's nodes, is a well described disease process in man. Schmorl's nodes have not until now been described in the dog. This paper describes intravertebral disc herniation in the dog based on five patients taken from a retrospective study of dogs suspected of having cauda equina syndrome. The significance of intravertebral disc herniation in the dog at this time is that they indicate a disturbance in the vertebral endplate, they present definite radiographic signs, should be considered in patients with ostecohondrosis, and remain a possibls etiology for fibrocartilaginous emboli. Back pain is a common sign in people when Schmorl's nodes were the only pathologic findings. The common signs of palpatory pain in the lumbosacral region of the dogs in this report is noted but cannot be directly correlated at this time to the intravertebral disc herniation; however, it is suspected in two of the cases.

摘要:
The Clinical, radiologic and echocardiographic findings in a one‐year old dog with mild subvalvular aortic stenosis and aberrant caudal vena circulation are described. Aberrant systemic venous return to the right side of the heart usually has little clinical significance, but the unusual features in survey radiographs, contrast angiograms and contrast echocardiograms constitute the reasons for this repor

摘要:
The present study was designed to establish the appropriate technical conditions for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head and abdomen in rats using a low magnetic field strength (0.2 T) MRI unit equipped with three radio frequency (RF) coils: a custom‐made solenoid coil, a temporomandibular joint surface coil and a knee quadrature (QD) RF coil. Male adult Sprague‐Dawley rats were used. T1 and T2 relaxation times of both anatomic regions were measured from T1 and T2 maps. An appropriate parameter was then used to make final T1 and T2 weighted images. It was found that the most suitable coil for the head was the custom‐made soleniod coil, and that for the abdomen, the knee QD coil. The T1 and T2 relaxation times were 314 to 316 msec and 72 to 74 msec for the head, and 220 to 252 msec and 42 to 51 msec for the abdomen. The optimum parameters for the head were TR/TE = 400/38 msec in T1 weighted images and TR/TE = 1,800/110 msec in T2 weighted images, and for the abdomen, TR/TE = 300/25 msec in T1 weighted images and TR/TE = 1,500/110 msec in T2 weighted images. These results demonstrate that a low magnetic field strength MRI unit has potential for MRI study of the brain and abdomen in

摘要:
The brain of one control dog and two dogs with spontaneous central nervous system pathology (one hydrocephalus, one meningoencepholocoele) were examined with low‐ and high‐field‐strength magnetic resonance devices to evalute the suitability of low‐field magnets for canine brain imaging. We used 0.1 T and 1.0 T magnetic resonance (MR) imagers. The best image quality was seen 1.0 T imaging due to better signal‐to‐noise‐ratio, but both systems produced satisfactory anatomic images
