摘要:
In a blind clinical trial, adverse effects after iohexol and iopamidol myelography were evaluated in 151 dogs. Eighty‐one dogs were given iohexol (240 mgI/ml) and 70 dogs were given iopamidol (200 mgI/ml) by pre‐determined assignment. Each dog was evaluated postmyelographically for seizures, hyperthermia, prolonged recovery from anesthesia and intensification of pre‐existing neural signs. Myelographic quality was evaluated with a subjective scoring method. In comparing iohexol and iopamidol groups, there was not a statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse effects or in myelographic quality. Iopamidol and iohexol appeared to be equally efficacious for routine canine myelog

摘要:
Spontaneous vitamin C deficiency, or scurvy, was recognized in juvenile rhesus monkeys maintained in a research center as a result of being fed a commercial diet for 2 to 3 months with low levels of vitamin C. Most severely affected animals (13) were radiographed repeatedly up to day 300 following detection of the disease. Early radiographic changes consisted of widened, lucent metaphyses with lateral flaring and radiopaque metaphyseal lines at the junction of the metaphyses and physes. Physeal slippage was noted commonly. Following institution of vitamin C therapy, calcification of subperiosteal hemorrhage occurred in the metaphyseal regions. Metaphyses and physes returned to normal radiographic appearance within 15 to 30 days. Initially, the ubperiosteal hemorrhage progressed and a longer time was required for resolution of the calcified hematomas. The macaques improved clinically and were released from the hospital when fractures were stable at 4–5 weeks after admission. Of the 13 macaques studied, all but one returned as normal members of the colon

摘要:
In this study the correlation between positive contrast arthrography and arthroscopy was evaluated in a series of 20 shoulder joints (12 dogs) with radiographic and clinical evidence of osteochondrosis. The joints were consecutively examined by arthrography and arthroscopy. In 12 joints arthrography revealed the presence of a cartilage flap, and this finding was confirmed by arthroscopy. In 3 out of 8 joints where arthrography failed to demonstrate rupture of the cartilage, arthroscopy revealed the presence of a distinct fissure line. In 2 joints arthroscopy demonstrated a lesion comparable with chondromalacia and in 3 only a dimple in the articular cartilage was found. In 2 joints arthroscopy revealed the presence of small joint mice not detected by arthrography. Kissing lesions on the surface of the glenoid cavity opposite to cartilage flaps could be demonstrated as well. Evaluation of synovial inflammation, judged by the aspect and pattern of the synovial villi, correlated well with histologic findings. These results indicate that arthroscopy is a complementary examination in painful joints where arthrography fails to demonstrate rupture of the articular cartilage. It could be the procedure of choice if diagnostic and surgical arthroscopy can be combined. However, arthrography remains the technique of choice to demonstrate joint mice within the bicipital tendon sheath.

摘要:
Serratospiculum amaculataNemutodes were identified radiographically in the air sacs of an eagle which developed acute respiratory distress several days after treatment for severe head trauma. The nematodes were found at necropsy within the air sacs and lungs. One of the nematodes was found protruding through a hole in the lung. Although this parasite was reported in a falcon which died post operatively this is the first report of death in an eagle related to the presence of this parasite and is also the first time the parasite itself has been observed in a raptor antemortem.

摘要:
Hypertrophic fellne musculer dystrophy has been reported as an X‐linked inherited deficiency of a cytoskeletal myofiber protein called dystrophin. This report deserlbes the radiographic and ultrasonographic abnormalities of two male littermate domestic short‐hair cats and reviews the previous reported findings assoclated with hypertrophic feline muscular dystrophy. The thoracic radiographic abnormalities included: progressive cardiomegaly, large convex, scalloped irregularities associated with the vetral aspect of the diaphragm, and variable degrees of esophageal dilation (megaesophagus) with associated cranioventral aspiration pneumonia. Echocardiographic features included: concentric left vetricular wall thickening, increased left ventricular and diastolic and systolic dimensions, and an increase in endocardial echogenicity. Abdominal radiographic abnormalities included: hepatosplenomegaly, peritoneal effusion, renomegaly, adrenal gland mineralization, and paralumbar and diaphragmatic musculature enlargement. Abdomlnal ultrasonographic abnormalities included: irregularly thickened muscular portion of the diaphragm; hypoechogenicity of the liver; peritoneal effusion; hepatosplenomegaly; renomegaly with hyperechoic cortex and medulla; and adrenal gland mineralization. The irregular scalloped appearance of the diaphragm (particularly along the ventral/sternal margin) was a consistenl radiographic abnormlity in the two cats with hypertrophic feline muscular dystrophy after the age of 7 months. This finding was confirmed by ultrasound as a thickened irregular, hyperechoic diaphragm. A diagnosis of hypertrophic feline muscular dystrophy should be strongly suspected if this abnormality is identif

摘要:
This study examined the blood flow velocities and flow patterns in the normal dog using pulsed wave spectral Doppler echocardiography in eight areas of the heart. Two breeds of dogs, aged between 8 and 112 weeks and of both sexes, were used. The dogs were fully conscious and no drugs were used. The areas examined were the mitral valve, left atrium, tricuspid valve, right atrium, aorta, left ventricular outflow tract, pulmonary valve and the right ventricular outflow tract. The peak and mean velocities, direction of flow and whether flow was systolic or diastolic was determined for each of these flow areas. Additionally each of these waveforms were described. Aortic flow was also measured from the thoracic inlet by continuous wave Doppler.
